Free version of Windows 10 still has three key questions to be solved. Please be cautious when upgrading.

Beijing time July 15th news, "Forbes" magazine online version published an article saying, "Free version", Windows 10 is about to go on the market, many users are expecting Upgrade. However, on several key issues surrounding Windows 10, Microsoft took an evasive attitude. What is the specific time for Windows 10 "free" How long will technical support last? How do users not install forced updates? These three questions, Microsoft did not give an answer. The article said that Microsoft has the right to speak on Windows 10, can make any rules or charges, but need to be transparent, let users know all of this in advance.

The following is the full text of the article:

It will take about two weeks from the listing of Windows 10. Microsoft has received millions of booking upgrade orders because it is "free". The problem is that users are still confused about the signing upgrade because Microsoft refuses to answer key questions.

For its part, Windows 10 is an excellent system, but Microsoft's practice of avoiding key questions is not appropriate. I have been using it since the first beta release of Windows 10. It runs fast and stable, perfectly integrating new features with familiar old features and reviving the public image of the platform.

But you should not upgrade.

The current Windows 10 is like a beautiful car in the showroom, and the price is unbelievable. Without knowing the information such as warranty information and long-term costs, the person watching the car may drive it away.

There is a need to explain now: Windows is Microsoft, the company can do anything, how to charge how to charge. However, Microsoft also has a responsibility to communicate their decisions so that consumers can make the right choice. However, for now, I don't know why, Microsoft has not done so.

Windows 10 Free Upgrade Notification

Enough, just stop. I have been in contact with Microsoft for the past 6 months, but these puzzles are still not answered. In my opinion, it is wrong for Microsoft to do this. Here are some of the key questions I think Microsoft should answer a few months ago, and why you should stay away from Windows 10 before Microsoft does.

“Specific time for device life"

Microsoft repeatedly told Windows 10 users that the new system will be free for "lifetime" and will refuse to do so. Clearly defined.

A optimistic look, it can be simply understood as "always" free. However, Microsoft internal slides describe this period as “2 years to 4 years”, depending on the “customer type”. “Customer Type” is another phrase that Microsoft does not have a clear definition. So now, we want Windows 10 to be able to “free forever”. Since Microsoft's slides have other meanings, why not make it clear?

Another potentially overlooked aspect is the definition of "devices".

Microsoft has a secret algorithm for defining whether an upgraded PC should be re-recognized as a new PC. So, even if Windows 10 is permanently free, we don't know when Windows 10 will decide that your upgraded PC is now a new PC, and when you have to pay to continue using Windows 10.

Maybe, a call to Microsoft technical support can solve this problem. But it may not be solved, because Microsoft will not discuss this issue.

2. Time for technical support

When Windows 10 is about to go on sale in about two weeks, a more important issue is that we still don’t know that Microsoft will be Windows. 10 How long technical support is provided. Windows 10 may be “forever free”, but if Microsoft only provides limited time technical support, this “free” will be of little significance. Because limited support means that after a relatively short period of time, Microsoft will stop pushing security updates or start charging.

Windows Technical Support Time

Microsoft claims that its technical support covers "Windows Lifecycle". For reference, the new features of Windows 7 and Windows 8 ("mainstream support") are terminated in January 2015 and January 2018, respectively, and security updates (“ Extended Support) will be in 2020 and 2023, respectively. Ended in January. Windows 10 is not there, and Microsoft declined to discuss the life cycle of Windows 10.

I emphasize again: Microsoft has the right to generate revenue from Windows 10, and has the right to start charging at any time according to their own needs, but the deadline should be stated in advance. Microsoft has started signing with users, but we don't know if the free support period is longer or shorter than Windows 7, Windows 8.

Finally, the most critical question is coming.

3. Consequences of Forced Updates

A neglected Windows 10 topic is that it requires users to accept every update.

“Windows 10 Home Edition" Users (the vast majority of consumers) will not be able to bypass any updates Microsoft wants them to install. “Windows 10 Professional" Users can postpone installing updates for up to 8 months, but cannot block them. Only " Windows 10 Enterprise Edition" advanced users can postpone updates indefinitely.

Why would anyone refuse to update? Because some updates may have vulnerabilities at the time of launch, some updates are not compatible with existing software, and recent updates have even installed adware. After failing to prevent the installation of updates, Windows 10 Home Edition users become trial products for enterprise users.

In fact, Microsoft has frankly admitted this. “When the current enterprise equipment is updated, these adjustments will be validated by millions of Insider testers, consumers, and customer internal test programs for several months, enabling the company to deploy the updates to be verified, & rdquo; Microsoft Project Management Director Jim · Jim Alkove said in a rare Windows blog post in January this year.

Blurry Windows 10 Upgrade Instructions

The mandatory update of Windows 10 may eventually upgrade the system to a new version of Windows, and the promise of "free" will disappear.

So, there is an important question that has not yet been answered: What happens if Windows 10 users try to block the update installation?

There is news that Microsoft will cut off the security patches of these users, making the system exposed to viruses and malware, but Microsoft has once again avoided this problem. Various factors such as data limitations of broadband providers and user vacations may delay the update and expose the system to the risk of being destroyed. Again, Microsoft’s silence on these issues is wrong.

Microsoft is always transparent.

There are still many questions that Microsoft needs to answer, but the three above are the most important.

I have said before, now I want to emphasize again: Microsoft has the right to speak on Windows 10, can make any rules, make any decisions or when to start charging, but we should know these scales in advance and Fees are charged, not after we sign up for the service. I have no doubt that the fanatical Microsoft supporters will be happy to upgrade to Windows 10 and accept everything that comes. Other users may not know the risk of doing this before the upgrade, but Microsoft's way of doing things should not be like this.

We do know some important details of Windows 10, and recently received a notice that the system will not be available for sale to all users at the beginning of the market, but this is not enough when the new system is about to go on the market. Everything should be stated before the user's reservation system begins.

I would like to believe that Microsoft's vague promises on Windows 10 are as good as the system itself, but to do this, Microsoft must publish all information without reservation. Microsoft has made all the rules, but it has not been shared.
