Windows 10 lifetime free upgrade? Free updates between 2-4 years

Windows 10 can be upgraded for free on the one hand, and it can be enjoyed for free after installation. It seems to be amazing, but this free update also has a precondition, that is, during the support period of the device.

This can be explained as long as your device is running Windows 10, vendors provide support, and Microsoft will continue to update and upgrade, but this is still a very vague statement.

In a recent note to investors, Microsoft first disclosed the support cycle for Windows 10. Microsoft said that the expected support period for a device is typically between 2-4 years, and Windows 10 will also provide free updates during this time period.

In general, the support life of an electronic device is about 3 years, which is said to be "lifetime".

However, there are thousands of electronic devices in the world, desktops, notebooks, tablets, game consoles, etc. are all Windows 10 dishes, so how does Microsoft decide to support each and every device? What about the cycle?

Microsoft's explanation is based on the type of customer, but it is also a vague statement, there may be a difference between a PC and a tablet, and there may be a difference between a home version and a professional version.

In addition, Windows 10 is Microsoft's first attempt to use Windows as a service. It is reasonable to say that as a service will be continuously updated, what should be done once the Windows 10 support cycle is over? Repurchase authorization? Can I upgrade again for free?

Maybe after the official release of Windows 10 at the end of the month, Microsoft will explain it slowly.
