Windows update prompts some settings managed by your system administrator

timely update is an effective measure to ensure the normal operation of the system. But why do we pop up the prompt when we go to “Control Panel->Windows Update> manually modify the Windows Update settings? Some settings are managed by your system administrator"

Under normal circumstances, only users who join the domain will encounter this prompt. If it is just an individual user and has not joined the domain, if you encounter this prompt, it should be related to the settings or the permissions have been modified. In this regard, we can try the following two ways to solve this problem:

Method 1: For the professional version and above, you can modify the group policy to solve the problem

1 Type gpedit.msc in the Start Search box and press Enter to open the Group Policy Editor.

2. If the user account control window pops up, please allow to continue.

3, in turn, navigate to the following location: User Configuration ——Administrative Templates——Windows Components——Windows Update

4. Confirm that the policies for Windows Update are all unconfigured. If not, change them to unconfigured.

5, similarly, locate the computer configuration ——admin template——Windows component——Windows Update and confirm that the policy on Windows Update is in an unconfigured state .

Method 2: If you are using the home version of the operating system, you can modify the registry slightly

1, press “Alt+R” on the keyboard to bring up the run command box, type regedit .exe, enter, open the registry editor.

2, if the user account control window pops up, please allow to continue

3, find the following key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\SOFTWARE\\Policies\\Microsoft\\Windows\\WindowsUpdate : Improper modification of the registry can cause serious problems, so it is best to make a backup before making changes. This way, if the problem is not resolved, we can also restore the registry. Now we first back up the registry key WindowsUpdate. Right click on WindowsUpdate and select “Export”.

4, the file name you can enter, such as WindowsUpdate. The file type defaults to “registration file (*REG)” don't change, save location selection “desktop>

5, in the future need to restore the registry, find this file on the desktop, double-click to import

6, after the backup, we can boldly modify The registry is gone. Still select the key value WindowsUpdate, right click, select “delete”.

7. When the confirmation window pops up, press “yes  continue.

8. Finally, quit the registry editor.

9. Go back to “Control Panel->Windows Update", try changing the settings of Windows Update, now you can set it freely.
