Windows8 creates VHDX virtual disk to convert VHD to VHDX graphic tutorial

Win8 supports from VHDX—— a new virtual disk format that can support more than 2TB, maximum 64TB capacity —— boot, we can do it on Windows8 Create a VHDX virtual disk in the system disk management (shown below), then use imagex to release the Windows 8 system image to the VHDX disk. After booting, you can start the Win8 system.

In the Windows 8 era, Windows has native support for booting from a USB device. The Windows to go feature (shown below) is available in Windows 8 Enterprise to help users quickly deploy the Windows 8 operating system on USB devices. Non-Enterprise users can do so with the help of imagex tools. This new feature makes Windows easier to carry and even packs in pockets. As long as it is a place with a PC, you can use it at any time.

Now we know that Windows 8 supports booting from VHD and USB. Then, when the VHD meets the USB, there is a new situation — — we can install Windows 8 into the VHD virtual disk stored in the USB device, such a system has the features of convenient backup and easy to carry. In particular, if Windows 8 installed in VHD adopts KMS activation mode, its activation status will no longer be affected by hardware environment changes, and there is no need to worry about system activation failure due to computer replacement.

The following is the move to install Windows 8 into the VHD virtual disk stored in the USB device:

Preparation tool:

1, still use VHD_OneKey this tool will Wim is released from VHD.

2, use BootICE configuration system to boot.

Production steps:

1. Use the virtual CD-ROM drive to load the Win8 installation CD image, and open VHD_OneKey to set the parameters as shown below.

Parameter Description:

The location of the VHD is located to the USB device. Note that the file system must be NTFS, and the entire process will not affect other files in the device. The VHD format can be set to dynamically expand. The VHD size needs to be set by itself. For a dynamic type disk, the size is limited to the maximum capacity. The actual size is the size of all files after installation. As the number of files increases, it will become larger, which is called dynamic. Note that the mobile device must ensure that there is enough free space (greater than the set VHD size), otherwise it will not start properly. Load the WIM location of the VHD and select the install.wim file under sources in the mounted image.

After setting, click OK. In the confirmation window that pops up, click “ is ”. After the VHD is created, it will be automatically mounted. If the system prompts you to pop up the dialog box, it will be available after formatting. Do not format or cancel. As shown below, the waiting progress reaches 100% and the completion prompt appears:

2, configuration boot.

Be aware of the points before configuring the boot. Make sure the USB device partition is activated (can be set in Disk Management) and the master boot record is set to "Windows NT 6.x default bootloader" (actually, devices formatted in nt6.x already have this condition). You can also check the following steps:

Open the BootICE tool:

1 Click “Master Boot Record M”, set the master boot record to “Windows NT6.x default Bootstrap & rdquo;, as shown below

2 Click & ldquo; partition management G & rdquo;, the USB device partition is activated, as shown below

After completing the above inspection work, start Configuring System Boot

If you are currently using Windows 8 system, copy the boot folder and bootmgr file from the local hard disk active partition [- can also be downloaded from here-] to the USB device, as shown below. >

Open BootICE--BCD Edit--BCD file in other locations

First create a new BCD file in the USB device--boot folder. If it is available, you can overwrite it. . Then click “View/Modify” as shown below.

First click “Add”, select “Windows Nt6.x VHD startup item”, then configure BCD as shown below. The “equipment file” is filled in according to your actual situation. “GUID”automatic identification, “menu title" custom, other photo settings.

After setting, click “Save current system settings”.

Ok, now you can reboot~~ After rebooting, you can boot from USB. After startup, you need to configure the system, personalize settings, account settings, etc. These are all familiar. After the setting is over, you can enjoy Windows 8~

========================================== ==========

Open the app store after entering the system, the following figure will appear, because the system closes the app store in the Windows to go workspace by default

Recovery method: Win+R opens and runs gpedit.msc. Expand Computer Configuration - Manage Templates - Windows Components - Stores, double-click "Allow or deny access to the Store app on the Windows To Go workspace" and select "Enable".

Windows 2012 started to use the new VHDX file, Microsoft only changed the format of the virtual file, the main purpose is to adapt to the new storage needs of the modern era, so that it has the ability to provide reliable, large storage examples. . VHDX provides 64 TB of capacity on a VHD 2 TB basis. In addition, it supports a logical sector size of 4 KB and a size of 256 MB per block to optimize virtual disk performance. In other words, it provides greater security, reliability, and performance than VHD.

Use the command line: convert-VHD –path d:\\Hyper-v\\vhd\\server2003sp2.vhd –destinationPath d:\\Hyper-v\\vhdx\ ewwin.vhdx

If you can't remember the command, we can also use the Hyper-v manager to convert:

1, open the Hyper-v manager, edit the disk:

2 Position the VHD file:

3. Select the conversion:

4. Select the conversion type. Here, we must emphasize that Vhd can be converted into VHDX, colleague, VHDX. Can be converted to VHD.

5, you can convert a fixed-size VHD into a dynamic VHDX, or you can convert a dynamic VHD into a fixed VHDX.

6. Conversion process.

7. The length of the conversion time depends on the size of the VHD file. During the conversion process, I found that converting the dynamic VHD to a fixed VHDX will be very slow, a 1.9G file. After conversion, it is 1.3G, which takes about 3 hours.
