Microsoft launches Office Online Server (OOS) to bring local Office online experience

  

Computer Store News: Microsoft today announced the succession of Office Online Server (OOS) and Office Web Apps Server 2013. The Office Online Server allows organizations to deliver web versions of Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and OneNote to their data center users. The Office Online Server provides the same functionality that Microsoft provides for the average Office Online consumer. With the new Office Online Server, users can also use features such as real-time collaborative editing that was not available in the previous version.

OOS is highly scalable for businesses, whether it is a 100-employee or 1,000-enterprise employee. The architecture allows one OOS service to target multiple SharePoint, Exchange, and Skype for Business instances. OOS is compatible with SharePoint Server 2016, Exchange Server 2016, and Skype for Business Server 2016. Backwards are also compatible with SharePoint Server 2013, 2Exchange Server 2013, and Lync Server 2013. Microsoft also shared the many features of configuring Office Online Server:

  • From now on, OOS integrates with SharePoint Server 2016, in the browser, users can work in Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Create, share, and collaborate on OneNote.
  • OOS integrates with Exchange Server 2016 to view and edit Office file attachments.
  • OOS integrates with Skype for Business Server 2016, and OOS delivers high-fidelity slideshows.
