Microsoft has already transformed! Windows 10 doesn't make money, but it can be free forever

Computer shop news: Maybe it's almost the same. Microsoft has made a lot of money since Windows 95, but with Vista and Win8's "spoiler", Microsoft has already begun to consider new sources of revenue. Although XP, Win7, Win8.1 and Win10 still account for more than 90% of the global operating system market share, Microsoft has made less and less money from these. According to Steven J. Vaughan-Nichols, a technology watcher, Microsoft has already transformed, and cloud computing is more profitable than Windows.

According to Microsoft's latest financial report for the fourth quarter of 2015, Windows revenues accounted for only a little more than 10% of Microsoft's business, and now the most profitable is the server and cloud computing departments. In the second place is the game department, Xbox One and the game actually sell quite well. The third thing to make money is the office suite Office. Such a good use of things will naturally make a lot of money for corporate users. The most popular Windows is only ranked fourth, which should have a lot to do with Microsoft's free upgrade policy in the short term. However, this situation may not be better with the Windows 10 recovery charges after July 29 this year, because the data shows that Windows 10 does not have a significant impact on Microsoft revenue. Now Microsoft is mobilizing all existing resources to move closer to cloud computing, because the money is too fast. The first is the rise of the Android and iOS platforms to make Microsoft realize that things are changing. Although the PC is not completely destroyed by mobile phones and tablets, it has entered the state of “half dead”. And even if you try to support Windows Phone and Windows 10 Mobile, it looks like it won't work much in the short term. Therefore, Microsoft moved the main applications of the mobile terminal to these two platforms, and achieved good results. Microsoft's move is not just to let its own application blossom on Android and iOS. The bigger step is to apply the enterprise application, mainly the Office suite, to the cloud, which requires cross-platform support. Not just stay on the desktop. In addition, because cloud computing and servers are the main source of profit for Microsoft, Windows systems will become an adjunct, or simply serve the two. This shift is reflected in the fact that the sales revenue of the Windows Server 2012 system is becoming less and less comparable to the Azure cloud computing profit. Microsoft's earnings report also reflects a 5% decline in Windows revenue in the last quarter, cloud computing growth of 5%, Azure sales increased by 140% year-on-year! Nadella therefore also recognizes that the enterprise cloud computing market has the greatest opportunities. Since Windows can't match it, Microsoft is starting to try a free strategy on Windows 10. The goal is to maintain the number of users of this product, and to ensure that cloud computing and servers contribute to revenue. Simply put, even if Windows 10 is clean, even the ads are not placed (the recent emergence of Windows 10 lock screen ads may mean that the free version has a new source of income), but it also does not lose money, because the enterprise is for Microsoft servers In the process of paying for the cloud computing service, it is also a system fee for ordinary users, and the Windows 10 Enterprise Edition is always charged. In this way, Microsoft has every reason and strength to be completely free for the personal version of Windows 10 system, because it can further attract more users to join, and contribute to Microsoft's cloud strategy, and cloud computing and servers are the transformation of Microsoft. The main source of profit, Microsoft set a "three-year installation of one billion"; the number of Win10 devices may also be the target.
