Recently, we will comment on the impact of Microsoft Win8 system on the development of Microsoft and even the operating system industry.

First, the status quo: What is Microsoft losing?

After the release of the Win8 Developer Preview, it was well received, and Microsoft’s position as the operating system’s leader still looks solid. Mac OS X, which rivals Apple, is nothing more than a rich man. Linux is just something that technology homes know.

Win8 claims to have faster startup speeds, shorter shutdown times, a more user-friendly human-machine interface, more tablet compatibility and optimization, and a word-of-mouth "very good" Metro interface. Everything makes the future of Win8 seem bright, and the world is invincible. However, is this really the case?

Android, iOS, cloud computing mature In the new mobile Internet world, Microsoft appears to be so weak and vulnerable everywhere.

Windows 7 is not ready for tablets, and it's hard to compete against Android tablets, let alone iPad. In the future, if Microsoft can't gain a place in the mobile Internet market, it will lose its former status as a king.

Second, the future: the significance of research and development Win8

Win8 For Microsoft, it is not just a traditional desktop system. It carries Microsoft's burden on the tablet market against the iPad, against the iPhone and Android phones in the mobile phone market.

Porting the Metro interface from Windows Phone to Win8 makes Win8 more playable, and Microsoft hopes to leverage its Windows market share. And popularity can drive the development of their own mobile phone system ——Windows Phone.

Microsoft's previous generation of Windows Mobile smartphone systems consumed a lot of manpower and material resources, but did not get the corresponding return. And limited by the booming development of the Saipan S60, Microsoft also lost the opportunity in the smartphone market.

When iOS and Android led to the development of the entire smartphone market, Microsoft completely lost all of its share of the smartphone market. Win8's Metro can make Microsoft curve save the country, but also depends on Win8 and the subsequent development of Windows Phone 7 system.

So, is Microsoft's forward-looking lack of the tablet market? Quite the contrary, Microsoft has invested more in the tablet market than Apple and Android. From MID to Windows tablet, from Windows CE to Windows 7, Microsoft has been sparing no effort to promote tablets, and even the term "tablet" is the first Microsoft to bring to everyone.

Unfortunately, the traditional desktop operating system was so successful that Microsoft ignored the tablet. However, Microsoft later realized that tablet PCs differ from traditional desktop systems in terms of user needs. Therefore, starting with Windows 7, Microsoft began to add multi-touch functionality, and Win8 joined the Metro interface. It can be seen that Microsoft hopes that Win8 can grab a piece of the Internet in the era of mobile Internet.

Third, thinking: Can Win8 save Microsoft?

Can Win8 save Microsoft and let Microsoft reproduce XP's glory? This is not necessarily true. Apple has two product lines, iPad and MacBookAir, two systems, Mac OS X and iOS, App Store and iTune Store. Apple is mature in software, hardware and services.

Microsoft wants to use Win 8 and Windows Phone software products alone. In the mobile Internet war, the chances of winning are quite small. After all, compared to software products and hardware, what really affects users will be follow-up services.
Figure 5 In this era, everything should be said "Services"

Microsoft vigorously promoted Metro on Win8, largely inspired by Apple's iOS to drive Mac OS X. In terms of user experience, Win8's Metro is very new on traditional PCs, but it is cumbersome to use on a tablet or handheld device. It's like the disgusting start menu on Windows Mobile.

Only one Win8 can't satisfy the user's demand for the tablet. What users want to see is something that they are familiar with and novel.

Is Win8 not good? It's very good, very good, but in addition to facing the offensive from Apple and Google, Microsoft must also meet the profitability needs of hardware manufacturers. Major PC hardware manufacturers such as ASUS, Hewlett-Packard, Acer, and Lenovo all need Microsoft's system to sell themselves to the product. Microsoft also needs the licensing fees of major PC manufacturers.

Under this subtle relationship, even if Win8 itself is very good, the difference in hardware will affect its performance; compatibility and difference will affect the image of Win8 in the user's mind. Therefore, when Win8 is finally presented to the user, it is impossible to know whether it is as good as an advertisement.

Fourth, last: What does Win 8 mean for us?

For the average consumer, of course, I hope that Win8's tablet will shine, and let the tablet market bloom. Admittedly, the iPad is very good, but the same interface, almost the appearance, consumers have been aesthetic fatigue, consumers are more eager to see what is bright.

There is a negative textbook: Android 3.0, Android 3.0 is very good, very open, but application support is not enough. If Microsoft's influence can make the application that everyone is familiar with can directly transition to the tablet, this will be a great boon for consumers. At the same time, you can also have more choices for your tablet.
