on a machine with installed Windowns XP

Since Windows XP is released after Windows 2000, usually the software will not be compatible with future versions, if for some reason on a machine that has successfully installed Windowns XP Install Windows 2000, which will overwrite the main boot sector of the hard disk and the system files in the system disk directory, causing the previously installed Windows XP to fail to boot. Usually reported:

Starting Windows...

Windows 2000 could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: WINDOWSSYSTEM32CONFIGSYSTEM
, but the actual reason is not What files are missing, but the Windowsns 2000 version of the startup file can not find Windows XP, even if you start Windows 2000 to edit the boot.ini file, adding Windows XP startup information will not help!

Simple research found that Windows 2000/XP boot depends on several files ntldr NTDETECT.COM boot.ini bootfont.ini (font file, it doesn't matter, which font file is selected when booting) , boot.ini can be edited, but: XP version of ntldr NTDETECT.COM can start XP, can also start 2000, while the 2000 version can not XP. Therefore, we can prepare the above four files to the side, and then install Windowns 2000 to cover it. After the completion, restore 4 files, edit the boot.ini file, and add a section of Windowns 2000! As for how to edit boot.ini, it is actually very simple, google data should be a lot.
