Practical tips for operating disk quotas under Vista

We know that for NTFS file systems, each user can be assigned a specified amount of disk space, which can be used by both local and remote login users. If your system is like multiple accounts, it is necessary to use disk quotas. Otherwise, your hard disk space may be full, especially under Windows Vista. Here, I will introduce some practical tips for operating disk quotas under Windows Vista:

Tip 1: Quickly set disk quotas

The operation of disk quotas is very simple. Open the disk properties and switch to “ Quota & rdquo; tab, here check the "Enable quota management" and "Reject the disk space to the user who exceeds the quota limit" check box.

Click the "Quota Item" button in the lower right corner, and the "Quota Item" window will open. Click the "New Quota Item" button on the toolbar to bring up the dialog box. In the box, select the account that needs to allocate the disk quota. You can manually enter the account name, or you can search for it. After confirming, set the disk space and warning level in the “Add New Quota Item” dialog box. After returning, you can view the account. Information such as disk quota and space usage, when the account is logged into the system, only the allocated disk quota will be used.

Tip 2: Use the Fsutil command to manage disk quotas

In addition to viewing disk quotas through the Disk Properties window, we can also use the Fsutil command to manage disk configurations. Enter the command prompt environment, manually enter the "Fsutil quota query J: & rdquo; command to view the disk quota of the J disk, as shown in Figure 2, you can see that the disk quota shown here is in bytes. to show.

If you need to modify the existing disk quota, for example, to limit the disk space of the llh account to 900MB and set the warning level to 800MB, you can operate in the following format, and the number of bytes can be opened. Calculator & rdquo; window to get the calculation: Fsutil quota modify J: 943718400 838860800 llh

Tip 3: Specify the same disk quota setting on multiple partitions

Still open the quota item window, in turn Execute the “quote →export” command, or execute the command from the right-click menu, and specify the export path and file name in the dialog box that pops up later. In the future, we can open the quota item window in other partitions, and then execute &ldquo The quota → import & rdquo; command, import the quota settings file exported in advance can be quickly applied.

Tip 4: Quickly delete or move a specific user's file

Although Windows Vista's search function is quite powerful, this feature does not search for a specific user on a certain partition. The files that are owned can be easily implemented using disk quotas.

For example, we need to delete or move the files owned by the llh user on the D drive. You can open the quota item window, select the configuration settings of the llh user, right click and select the “Mail” command, which will pop up. Disk quota window, where you can see all the files owned by the user, select these files, select the “delete” or “move” button, and note that only the file is moved to “ After the path is specified, the "move" button on the right will become available.
