Windows Vista set up broadband connection tutorial

Step 1: Start VISTA to enter the system desktop, in fact, VISTA interface and XP are still very different, of course, the interface is more beautiful is undeniable.

Step 2: We click the Windows window button in the lower left corner, similar to the "Start" in our previous system, and then select "Network" to set network related information.

Step 3: After opening “Network”, you can see all the computers in the current network, this and our previous system. Similar to the network neighborhood, all computers will be displayed in the Network window. Instead of paying attention to this interface display, we will click on the "Network and Sharing Center" above. This "Network and Sharing Center" is the core of VISTA network settings.

Step 4: After entering the “Network and Sharing Center”, we can add a network connection by “Setting up the connection or network” on the left. Like the XP system, VISTA will start a network. Setup wizard to complete the configuration of the network.

Step 5: First of all, "Choose a connection option". If our home network is connected via ADSL line, we choose the first item - "Connect to the internet, set Wireless, broadband or dial-up connection", click the "Next" button to continue.

Step 6: The system will automatically detect your network settings. If you automatically get IP access via LAN, VISTA will automatically set your network parameters. However, since we are accessing the Internet via ADSL, we must perform PPPOE dialing. So in the next "How do you want to connect" window we chose "Broadband PPPOE, using a DSL or cable connection that requires a username and password."

Step 7: Follow the wizard "Type the information provided by your internet service provider ISP", including username, password, etc.

Step 8: The dial-up wizard in the VISTA system has a special feature, which is to add a "display character", if we put this display character before the setting Check the tick, then the information in the password will be able to be viewed in plain text, because VISTA only needs to input the PPPOE dialing password once, combined with this display character can effectively reduce the occurrence of errors due to mis-input. The other parameter settings are the same as in the XP system.

Step 9: After setting up, we will add the PPPOE dialer and return to the “Network and Sharing Center” again. We will click on the “Management Network” on the left. connection".

Step 10: In the "Network Connection" we will see the "ADSL Broadband Connection" and the "Local Connection of the NIC itself" just added.

Step 11: Double-click the broadband connection icon. We will start the ADSL dial-up window. All the operations here are the same as those under XP. Click the “Connect” button to successfully access the Internet via ADSL line. It is.

Step 12: Although we can connect to the ADSL network through PPPOE, security is a big problem. VISTA is good enough to have a network type available in the system, which is convenient for most ordinary users who do not have a certain computer level, and can easily implement security settings in different network environments.

The specific method is to see a setting called "NETWORK private network" in the "Network and Sharing Center" setting window, which means that the current VISTA system network access is for the private network. In this case, the security level is relatively low. We can see from the figure that "Network Discovery" is enabled, and other computers connected to the network can easily find the machine. This kind of setting is definitely not enough for our ADSL Internet access. Let's just click "Custom" on the right side of "NETWORK Private Network".

Step 13: By default, there are two network types available to us, which are all set by VISTA for us. One is a public network, in this network setting. It will limit the discovery of other computers and devices and restrict certain programs from using the network. The other is a private network where you will be able to see computers and devices while allowing your own computers to be discovered, meaning that devices on a private network are not as demanding as the public, security level Be lower. Because we are accessing the Internet via ADSL, the network belongs to the public network, so it should be modified through the “Change” button at the bottom of the “Customize Network Settings” window.

Step 14: After changing from the default private network settings to the public network settings, our computer network access level is even higher.

Step 15: Review the Network and Sharing Center again, you will see that the network status has changed to “Public Network”, and the following “Share and Discover” parameter settings are also available. Change, and thus more secure.

Summary:

From the content of this article, most of the operations of ADSL dialing under VISTA are similar to XP, but there are functions and security. Significantly improved, more suitable for low-end users, can help users with low technical level to configure their own network more secure.
