WinXP is fair - find your own low resolution

Recently, a 17-inch display of the author's roommate has failed and sent for repair, temporarily using a 14-inch display that was used long ago. I did not expect to be able to display normally after the machine was turned on after the monitor was turned on. However, once it entered the Windows desktop, the display would be screened and could not continue to operate. It turns out that the resolution of the original desktop is 1024×768, but the highest mode supported by this 14-inch color display is 640×480. So, I removed my monitor and connected it, and prepared to reduce the desktop resolution. However, we found that in Windows XP to adjust the desktop resolution of the settings window, the minimum resolution is also 800 × 600, there is no 640 × 480 option. How to do? Does Windows XP "discriminate" these old monitors? Finally, the author finally found a solution: in fact, it is not that Windows XP does not support low-resolution mode, but it will hide these modes by default, it is up to us to "dig".

Right-click on the Windows XP desktop and select Properties to open the Desktop Properties dialog. Go to the Settings tab, click the Advanced button, and then click the List All Modes button in the Adapters tab to display a list of all the modes supported by the current graphics card (Figure 1). Select the "640 × 480, 256 colors, 60 Hz" mode at the top of the list (Figure 2, if you think the color is too low, you can also select the "640 × 480, 16 colors, default refresh" item.), Click "OK" to exit and the settings will take effect. Then switch to the 14-inch color display, everything is back to normal!

Tips

The above methods are also available for games that work at lower resolutions.
