How to start installing Fedora on XP system from hard disk

After using the computer for a few years, there will always be some problems. Especially the computer that was used as a work, after a few years, I encountered a problem that the fan turned slow and crashed in a few minutes. The old machine, the motherboard is too old, I want to find a good computer, remove the hard disk and install the system and then remove it. I think it will be troublesome. Then what should we do? Let's talk about it in detail.

The basic configuration of this computer is: BD7II motherboard, 512M memory, Pentium four 1.6Ghz cpu. First looked at the CD-ROM drive, how to press it did not respond. Then plug in the u disk, enter the bios settings, look for a long time, did not find the settings from the U disk boot, well, the motherboard is too old, it is estimated that the experts at that time have not thought of today's needs. So, we can do this:

In the first step, we need two files: grldr and menu.Ist

These two texts are in grub_for_dos, while grub_for_dos needs to be downloaded online.

Unzip it and you'll see both files. (As shown below)

Step 2: Prepare the linux image file FC-6-i386-DVD.iso and place it on the d drive or e drive.

There is a key requirement here: the format of the disk cannot be NTFS, and if so, it must be formatted as FAT32 before proceeding.

Then, unzip the image file, copy the two files initrd.img and vmlinuz in the isolinux folder to the same directory as FC-6-i386-DVD.iso (as shown below)

Step 3: Place the two files obtained in the first step in the root directory of the c drive, and add these lines to the end of the menu.Ist file: (as shown below)

root (hd1,x)

kernel (hd1,x)/vmlinuxz

initrd (hd1,x)/initrd

where x is the linux image The disk number of FC-6-i386-DVD.iso, the disk number here refers to the serial number identified under linux. Here we need to first determine that this x is the first few, we can use a wingrub to view directly. (Figure below)

Step 4: boot.ini Editing

Steps: 1. Open “My Computer”—“Properties”&mdash ;“Advanced”—“Settings>; as shown below:

2. Add: c:\\grldr="install fedora6" in the last line of the file, where 6 is the version number, which is actually Tips, what you write does not affect the installation of the system, the important thing grldr (as shown below)

Step 5: Restart the computer, you can see what we want The effect (as shown below)

Although the steps are somewhat cumbersome, but the absolute operability is strong, there are too many posts on the Internet. In fact, the method is always more difficult than the most intelligent, with the brightest eyes, look The above method of operation is not the most practical.
