In Windows XP, the system configuration file is stored in the “Config” directory under "System32", which mainly includes several unsuffixed files such as Sam, System, Software, Default, etc. The log file; the user configuration file is saved in the "DocumentsandsettingsUsername" directory under the Windows XP installation directory, mainly Ntuser.dat and the corresponding log file.

When manually backing up the Windows XP registry, just copy the above files to another directory. If you are using multiple operating systems, you can back up these files on other operating systems. If the Windows XP installation partition uses the NTFS file system, you can start the recovery console program and use the Copy command directly to back up. The recovery console program can be installed using the “i386winnt32.exe/cmdcons” command on the Windows XP installation CD.

The Windows XP registry is very large. It collects configuration and status information related to hardware and software, as well as various settings related to the user.
