Install and configure sound card under Windows XP

  


With the continuous development of multimedia technology and its wider application, sound card has become one of the essential hardware devices for multimedia computers. Most of the sound cards on the market are plug and play. The type is very convenient for ordinary users. The user does not need to do too much work. When the sound card is connected, the system will automatically search for the corresponding driver and install it instead of plug and play. The installation of the sound card is relatively complicated.
9.1.1 Installing a Plug and Play Sound Card
It is very convenient to install new hardware in the Chinese version of Windows XP. It comes with many hardware drivers that pass the compatibility test, for plug and play. Sound card, as long as the user inserts the sound card into the motherboard of the computer, the system will detect the new hardware and automatically load its driver. The specific steps are as follows:
(1) In the case of shutdown, the user first inserts the sound card to be installed into the slot on the motherboard of the computer, then turns on the computer and starts the Windows XP system.
(2) After the Windows XP system starts to log in, a small icon will appear on the taskbar of the desktop, and there will be a corresponding text box prompt. First, “Found new hardware”, then “ldquo; is searching for new Hardware driver & rdquo;.
(3) When the driver is installed, the user will be prompted to “new hardware has been installed and can be used”. If the user installs the Windows XP operating system after connecting the sound card, the system will also detect the new hardware and then install it automatically during the system installation. The installation process is quite short, and the user does not need to do any work to complete the sound card installation. Therefore, the Chinese version of Windows XP's plug-and-play function is very powerful.
9.1.2 Installing a Non-Plug and Play Sound Card
If the user is using a previously purchased non-Plug and Play sound card, a driver CD is usually included, and the user can manually install the driver from the disk.
(1) If the sound card is not turned on, insert the sound card into the slot on the motherboard inside the computer, then turn on the computer and start the Windows XP system.
(2) Click the “Start” button, select the “Control Panel" command in the "Start" menu, and select “Add New Hardware" in the Open “Control Panel” window ;Options. Users can also right-click on the “My Computer” icon on the desktop and select the “Properties” command from the shortcut menu that pops up. Select the “Hardware” tab in the “System Properties” dialog box that opens. And then click the “Add Hardware Wizard“ button in the <quo;Hardware” tab to launch the “Add Hardware Wizard” dialog box, as shown in Figure 9.1.

(3) When the user determines to use the wizard, click the “Next” button to open the “Add Hardware Wizard” dialog box. When the search is completed, it will appear “Whether the hardware is connected? & rdquo; dialog box, ask the user whether this hardware has been connected to the computer, click "Yes, the hardware is connected" radio button, click the "Next" button to continue, as shown in Figure 9.2.

(4) A dialog case of hardware installed on the user's computer will be displayed in the & ldquo; installed hardware & rdquo; listed on the user's computer hardware installed list box, Users can select an installed hardware to view its properties or solve problems that occur during the run. Here, select the “Add new hardware device” option, as shown in Figure 9.3.

(5) In the following dialog allows the user to select a sound card mounted, as shown in Figure 9.4.

If users want to install on their own understanding of the hardware is not too deep, so that the system can automatically search for and install the hardware wizard, select & ldquo; search and automatically install hardware & rdquo; single option, there will be a display system search progress Dialog.
(6) If the user knows the manufacturer and product model of the installed sound card, you can select “Install the hardware I manually select from the list”, click the “Next” button, and the user will appear. Select the dialog box for the type of hardware to be installed, and list the various hardware types in the “Common Hardware Types” list box. Users can select the “Sound, Video and Game Controllers” option and click “Under” The one-step button continues, as shown in Figure 9.5.

(7) Then open the & ldquo; To select the device driver for this hardware installation & rdquo; dialog box, on the left side of the & ldquo; manufacturers & rdquo; show the world's major card manufacturers list, If you select a manufacturer, the corresponding product model will be displayed in the “Models” list on the right. If the sound card installed by the user is not displayed in the list, you can insert the CD that came with the manufacturer in the CD-ROM drive, and then click the “Install from Disk” button to find the corresponding driver on the open CD-ROM. This step is the most critical. If the driver file is faulty, it is impossible to successfully add the sound card, as shown in Figure 9.6.

(8) When the user find the correct driver file, click the & ldquo; Next & rdquo; button, then there will be & ldquo; wizard is ready to install your hardware & rdquo; dialog box that prompts the user system Will start to install new hardware, if the user wants to modify the previous settings, you can click the “Previous” button to step back to the corresponding steps to modify, if the user confirms to start installing new hardware, click the “Next” button That's it, as shown in Figure 9.7.

(9) Then copy the file dialog box will appear on the screen, indicating the progress of the driver file is loaded, the next dialog box will prompt the user to successfully add the hardware device, click “Complete" Close the Add New Hardware Wizard.
At this point, the whole process of non-Plug and Play sound card installation has been completed. A small speaker-shaped icon will appear on the taskbar. Users can view related information of the hardware device in the “Device Manager” window. . Right click on the “My Computer” icon on the desktop, select the “Properties” command in the shortcut menu that pops up, and select the “Hardware” label in the “System Properties” dialog box that opens, at “ Click on the "Device Manager" button in the "Hardware" tab, the "Device Manager" window will open, and the newly installed sound card will appear under the "Sound, Video and Game Controllers" option. Device, if you want to view the properties of the device, you can select and right-click the option, and select the “Attributes” command in the shortcut menu that pops up. The details of this device will be displayed in the “Properties” dialog box that opens. .
