1. Use the System File Checker to scan all write-protected files on your computer: Br>

b. Type sfc /scannow in the Open: field and click OK. At this point you may be prompted to insert the Windows XP installation disc.

Note: The following procedure includes information about editing the Windows Registry. Improper use of the Registry Editor may result in more serious errors and must be reinstalled to resolve the issue. You need to back up the registry file before performing the following steps. Use the Registry Editor at your own risk.

Perform the following steps to edit the registry:

1. Click Start -> Run; the Run text box pops up.

2. Type regedit in the Open: field and click OK.

3. Perform an online upgrade of Windows XP, or a Windows XP fix.

4. Locate the correct registry subkey, then right click on the IsInstalled(REG_DWORD) key and click Modify to reinstall the Internet Explorer 6 browser component in the Windows XP operating system. Table key value:

5. Change the numeric data from 1 to 0.
