Fedora 21 upgrade Fedora 22 method

The Fedora 22 version was released in May of this year. A lot of new features have been added to this update, and the interface is much more beautiful. Many users' system versions still stay in Fedora 21, how to upgrade Fedora 21 to Fedora 22?

Update all packages of Fedora 21 to the latest state

The first step is to update all packages of Fedora 21 to the latest state. Use a sudo dnf update command:

sudo dnf update

In fact, in Fedora 21, you can use dnf to manage the package, but in 21, dnf and yum coexist. In Fedora 22, yum is completely abandoned. The dnf command is almost fully compatible with the yum command, and it is not difficult to switch.

Installing the fedup package

The upgrade tool is fedup. The package needs to be installed by itself. The command is as follows:

sudo dnf install fedup

Upgrading the system

The third step is to upgrade the system. Directly use the following command:

sudo fedup --network 22

Solving the problem of system upgrade process error

I thought that all the upgrade process will go smoothly, and the result will appear during the upgrade process. An accident. The error message is also very clear, saying that the Python language parses the ascii characters incorrectly. Use the error message to search on the Internet and find that this is a problem with python scripting. It can be solved by loading the utf-8 module. There is still a little flaw in the fedup package. I have already submitted this bug. But I can't modify the fedup script myself. How did I solve this problem? Very simple, change the system language to English. After the upgrade is complete, modify it to Chinese. In other words, the Chinese system will go wrong during the upgrade process, but not in English.

reboot the system

reboot the system, select the first item, as shown in Grub start interface:

and then wait for the completion of the upgrade, this point of time required .

Changes to the new system

The upgrade process went smoothly and the upgraded system was stable. The difference between an upgraded system and a newly installed system is to maintain the user's configuration as much as possible. For example, my upgraded system does not change the wallpaper, and the newly installed system has another set of wallpapers. However, Fedora 22 and Fedora 21 are still a little bit different, the window theme is gone, there is no way to set the window theme in gnome-tweak-tool, only the GTK+ theme can be set. So I bid farewell to clearlooks and chose the default theme. The default theme of Fedora 22 is much more beautiful than the previous version.

The above is the introduction of Fedora 21 to Fedora 22. If the Fedora 21 version does not prompt for automatic update notification, you can manually upgrade to Fedora 22 according to the method in this article.
