Everything Remote Search Tips

Usually we use the instant messaging tool or email to transfer files. But sometimes when a document is needed, a colleague may not be at the workstation. What if I want to get his documents? In fact, you can use Everything to build a search system, so that even if your colleagues are not there, you can directly search and download remotely. Building a remote server is here with the latest version of Everything. After the software is running, click the “Options” option in the “Tools” menu, click “HTTP” in the option window that opens, and then select the “Enable HTTP Server” item in the right window. In order to avoid conflicts with other network software, set an uncommon port in the "HTTP server port", for example, this example uses 1234. Next, select “activate the HTTP server log function" and click on “Select” under the option to set a log name in the pop-up window so that you can know at a glance which remote users have accessed the local disk. Finally, select the “Allow HTTP file download” item so that the remote user can download it directly through the browser after discovering the desired file (Figure 1). After all settings are completed, click “OK", a remote search server is set up. Tip: Allow software to access the network When "Enable HTTP server" is selected, the system's firewall will pop up a prompt asking if the software is allowed to access the network. Here you have to choose to agree to access, otherwise remote users will not be able to connect. Setting access permissions Because Everything searches for the entire disk file by default, and a computer must have both public and private files, which makes it easy to reveal your private data. In fact, to solve this problem is also very simple, you can set to exclude private files. Also open the option window of the software, select “exclude list" in the "index" on the left, and then select the "Enable exclusion list" option in the right window. Next click on “Add Folder", and select the folder directory to be excluded in the pop-up dialog box. Since I have stored the official documents on the F drive, I added the C, D, and E disks to the exclusion list (Figure 2). However, there is another problem, because the software can be accessed by all users on the network by default, and the files in my computer are communicated internally by the company and cannot be viewed by everyone, so you need to set an access right. You can set the authentication username and password required for remote user access in the “HTTP server username” and “HTTP server password” respectively. The remotely erected system will then need to send the IP address of the system and the authentication username and password of the accessing server to the colleague who can be accessed via email or QQ. When the colleague receives the information, first run a web browser at random, then enter it in the address bar in the form of “IP address: port”, and then press Enter to connect to the erected system. Then enter the user name and password in the login page to enter the shared system. Users can either find the various files they want in the disk directory layer by layer or enter the file name in the search box to search (Figure 3). Once you find the file you want, click on the file name in the search results, the browser will pop up a file save prompt box, click “Save & rdquo; you can download to the machine, convenient.
