What is the format of EPS?

EPS files are a comprehensive format in the common interchange format commonly used in desktop printing systems. The EPS file format, also known as the PS format with pre-view images, consists of a text file in a PostScript language and an (optionally) low-resolution representative image described by the PICT or TIFF format. An EPS file is a PostScript file that includes header information that can be used by other applications to embed this file in a document.

Features:

(1) The EPS file format is also known as the PS format with pre-view images, it is a text file from a PostScript language and an (optional) low The resolution consists of representative images described in the PICT or TIFF format. (2) The "file package" of the EPS file format is a page, which is one. In addition, the page size can be determined by the overall rectangular boundary of the object on the saved page, so it can be used to save a standard page size in the group software, or to save a rectangular area of an object of independent size. (3) The text part can also be written by ASCII characters (the generated file is larger, but can be modified and checked directly in the normal editor), or it can be written by binary numbers (the generated file is small and processed quickly. But it is not convenient to modify and check). (4) Although the EPS file adopts the vector description method, it can also accommodate the bitmap image, except that it does not convert the bitmap image into a vector description, but saves all the pixel data as a whole in the description of the pixel file. For group editing and output control parameters for pixel images, such as contour curve parameters, screen parameters and dot shape, image and color block color device profile, etc., are saved in PostScript language. . Such as: Include Halftone Screen (including screening parameters) Include Transfer Function (including transfer function) PostScript Color Management (PS color management) (5) EPS file has many forms, such as CMYK EPS by color space (with four color points) The PostScript description section of the color image and an optional low resolution representation image, RGB EPS, L*a*b EPS. In addition, various EPS files generated by different softwares also have certain differences, such as Photoshop EPS, Generic EPS, AI (IIIustrator software version of EPS format) and so on. Pay attention to its compatibility when using it cross-over. (6) The EPS file can carry all the information of the font related to the text at the same time.

Print:

An EPS file can carry all the information about a font associated with a text. One point to emphasize is that when outputting to a non-PostScript device, only low resolution representations can be output. High resolution output is only available on PostScript output devices. So in many cases, the proofs we print are very rough, because we are using a non-PostScript printer to print PostScript files. As soon as you switch to a PostScript printer, near-perfect graphics will be printed.

Uses:

Using the files generated in this format, there will be no problem wherever you get it, and most professional software will handle it. As far as I know, EPS files can be applied to the layout and design of Pagemaker software. EPS file, it is a very good file format, it can bring us great convenience for file exchange.

Difference:

PostScript format (PS format). It is the standard format of the PostScript language. It consists of a multi-page description file consisting of ASCII characters (or its binary form) corresponding to the PostScript language, and is characterized by a description vector graphic, but can also accommodate bitmap images. The PS format is a file format that can be directly output to a printing device, and the graphic description portion is restored to a raster image dot matrix at a specified resolution of the printing device (photo-alignment device), and if there is a pixel image, the output resolution is determined by To set up through application software or output software. This format is the "original" format of the PostScript page description language. Its biggest feature is that a PS file can contain many pages of the entire chapter.

Advantages and Disadvantages:

EPS (Encapsulated PostScript) is the most important format in our image processing. It is widely used in graphics and layout design in Mac and PC environments. Print on a PostScript output device. Almost every drawing program and most page layout programs allow saving of EPS documents. In Photoshop, convert to EPS format via the Place menu command (Note: The Place command only supports EPS illustrations). It is recommended that you load an image into Adobe Illustrator, QuarkXPress, etc. The best choice is EPS. However, since the EPS format is too large during the save process, it is recommended that you do not use the EPS format if you are just saving the image. If your files are to be printed on a PostScript-free printer, it is best not to use the EPS format to avoid printing problems. You can use TIFF or JPEG instead.
