Several failures in the personalization settings in Windows 7

When you first started using Windows 7, there will be a refreshing feeling. It does make a lot of improvements on the display interface. Right click on the desktop and you will see a "personalized" option. With this option, users can choose the appropriate display method according to their needs. Although Windows 7 has made great improvements in this area, the author still believes that there are several failures.

Failure 1: The window transparency setting affects the display effect.

As shown in the figure below, this is a screenshot of the author under the Windows 7 operating system. What is the first impression of this picture for everyone? Is it that it looks like this is the reason why the monitor is too dirty or broken? The first time I saw it, it was the same reaction as everyone. The author still suspected that the display was too dirty. Also tried to wipe it. It turns out that these dirty spots on the window are really not a dirty display.

Because this is cut directly from the screenshot tool, even if the display is dirty, it will not be displayed on the screenshot. So what is the cause of this phenomenon? In fact, this is caused by the development of a new function in the Windows7 operating system, that is, the transparency of the window. As shown above, if the window is set to "open transparent" (system default setting), when multiple windows overlap, the first window can glimpse the contents of the following window. However, if there is a word in the title bar of the following window, then the transparency effect is as shown in the figure above. Obviously, this transparency is hard to accept. As far as the author is concerned, if the transparency effect is like this, then it is better not to have this transparency effect. Not only can not improve the display effect, but also make people feel uncomfortable. I feel itchy when I look at it for a long time. I always feel that there is something dirty on the display and I want to wipe it.

So, I believe that the transparency of this window is one of the major failures in its personalization. I hope this transparency will improve after the official release. Before you have improved, advise everyone to turn off this feature first, so as not to be angry.

Failed two: The theme consumes a lot of available memory.

There are a variety of themes available in the Windows 7 operating system. By changing this theme setting, you can enrich your users' desktops. In some ways, this is really beneficial to the user because it makes the system desktop and icons look less rigid and more dynamic. But in the theme settings, there is also a big failure, that is, some complex topics will take up more available memory.

If a topic is set up sometimes, the performance of the computer will drop significantly, and it will take a long time to execute an operation command to respond. For example, when the user moves a window, the operating system may even prompt for insufficient memory. This is mainly because the subject of the user application occupies more of the available internal space. Due to the limited memory, other applications and commands cannot get enough memory, and they are unresponsive or even impossible to execute. In this case, the user can only change the theme. For example, you can change a simpler theme to improve the performance of your computer. For this reason, if the user's computer is old, such as memory is not 1G, it is best not to try to use the complex theme of Windows7, lest the operating system is as slow as a snail.

But the theme of Windows embodies the design concept of Windows Aero, which really gives people a sense of enjoyment. If users adopt other themes, they may not enjoy this feeling. Its vitrified reality and 3D visual experience really make people look comfortable. The biggest drawback is that the memory used is too large. For some computers with low configuration, using this theme is a luxury.

For this reason, I believe that Windows can make a lot of efforts in this regard. Whether to improve the performance while ensuring the user's visual experience. Let some computers with lower configuration can also be used. And don't make the theme a private product for a high-end user. In addition, when using this theme, it is best to give users some advice. For example, select information such as memory that is expected to be used by a topic. Let the user have a room for consideration before choosing a topic. Allow users to choose whether to sacrifice performance to experience this visual experience or to prioritize the performance of the operating system. This is not a manifestation of humanity.

The author supports this thematic design in the Windows operating system, and the visual experience for the user cannot be described by words. But it should try to reduce its erosion of available memory. After all, performance versus vision, most people will choose performance. If there is no improvement in this area, then this theme is likely to become a display, no one will use it.

Failed three: Quickly refer to historical records in the browser.

In Windows 7, you can use the shift key and the Enter key to quickly apply an eligible history. For example, the author recently visited www.163.Net and www.163.com two websites. When I enter www.163 in the browser address bar, the most recent history will be displayed at the end of the address drop-down list. The result of this display is the filtered content, which shows the history with the previous address of www.163. The result of the sorting is arranged in order of time. Nothing is amazing until now. Because these contents have been implemented in XP and 2003. However, a major improvement was made on Windows 7.

When entering the address, we can see a hint of the shift+enter key in the last part of the address bar. In other words, if we need to access after www.163, we need to access the preferred address (the most recently visited website). Then you don't need to lose the full address, you can directly press the shift+enter key to quickly complete the address and visit this website. This small improvement really facilitates user access. But what is the effect? Is there such a good thing that Microsoft claims? It is worth pondering. According to the author's understanding, most users do not have the habit of pressing two keys at the same time. If you let the user quickly reference the history by pressing two buttons at the same time, I think the number of users who benefit will be less.

The author believes that the ideal way is to use the Arabic numerals 1, 2, 3, etc. to indicate the order in front of the historical record. Then, when the user needs to access a website with a record in the history record, he only needs to press the function keys F1, F2, etc. on the keyboard. In other words, when keyboard input, Microsoft should try to reduce the simultaneous click of two keys. Because most users are not familiar with this operation.

However, Microsoft's improvements in this area, at least on one level, indicate that it really considers the user's experience. But it is best to be able to go further in this regard. If you consider the above problem, they should not consider the problem from their own perspective. As some computer-based technical talents, clicking two keys or even three keys at the same time is no problem. But as a regular user, this is a torture for them. As the author has been unable to understand, why the half-angle and full-angle conversion in the Chinese state needs to be completed by three keys. Many users have reported this operation to the author too much trouble. Sometimes when they do this, they have to look at the keyboard and press them one by one to be able to do it accurately. For this reason, I suggest that when Microsoft sets up on similar shortcuts in the future, it is best not to choose double or even triple. Because there are not many users who benefit from this. On the contrary, if it can be realized by a single button, for example, the function keys have different uses in different windows, and the like. Then this shortcut key is likely to spread as soon as possible, and really help users to improve work efficiency.

The above are just a few of the shortcomings that the author found when applying the Windows 7 operating system. If you have similar findings, you can add them. I hope that Microsoft experts will be able to certify and consider our plans after seeing these ideas. Make the Windows 7 operating system more complete and more user-friendly, to meet the needs of users of different educational levels.
