Free Software Foundation calls for boycott of Win8 certified computers

Microsoft announced that Windows 8 certified computers must use "Secure Boot", the Free Software Foundation (FSF) issued a statement saying that restrictive secure boot will allow computers to run only Microsoft's operating system. To limit the freedom of users to install free software GNU/Linux, it calls for signature resistance. The original intention of the secure boot technology is to prevent malicious programs and prevent unauthorized programs from starting.

FSF is concerned that Microsoft and hardware vendors will implement "safe boot" by restricting the installation of other operating systems. If so, then it should be called "Restricted Boot". The FSF encourages all computer manufacturers to resist the use of "restricted start-ups" to encourage computer users to sign a statement that they never buy or recommend computers that restrict users' freedom, and actively encourage other users to avoid such "incarceration systems".
