How to create extended partitions under Windows 7

Remember that Xp seems to be able to create extended partitions for the disk, but Win7's disk management does not have this feature. After searching, I know that Win7's partitioning mechanism has been changed because the standard MBR bootable hard disk can be used. Contains four primary partitions or three primary partitions plus one extended partition, then you create partitions continuously, win7 default is to create the primary partition, only to the fourth partition, win7 will prompt to create the type of partition, but used to The habit of extending the partition from the second partition seems to be difficult to change. Then we can use the command line to force the remaining space to be created as an extended partition.

First open the Control Panel -> System and Security -> Management Tools -> Computer Management, click on the disk management on the left, as shown below:

The steps are as follows:

  1. First create a master partition in disk management, and leave the rest of the space FREE
  2. Click the Start menu, type cmd in the search box and press Enter.
  3. Enter diskpart and press Enter to enter the diskpart command mode.
  4. Enter list disk and press Enter to display the list of disks under the current system, represented by 0, 1, 2....
  5. After carefully looking at the hard disk number of the partition you want to create (assuming the second hard disk), type select disk 1 to select the second hard disk.
  6. Enter create partition extended to create the remaining space as an extended partition.
  7. To limit the size of the extended partition, use the size parameter, such as size=80000, in megabytes.
  8. Return to disk management and continue to create logical partitions for extended partitions.

The following is a sequence diagram of the command line to create an extended partition:

Note that in the above figure, Tianyuan is creating a partition map for the 500G mobile hard disk, but the figure in front of the article After the capture, there is no list of mobile hard disks (maps at different times and locations, but the process is the same), hereby explained.

In addition, of course, you can use professional disk management tools for partition management and creation, such as DiskGenius, Acronis Disk Director Suite, etc., refer to blog related articles.
