Why do I tend to start the screen

Computer Shop News:

Windows 8 is a new Windows 8 UI Design compared to previous versions of the system, and the start screen is the best embodiment of this. Since the release date, the controversy about the start screen and the start menu is endless. After a year of using the CP to the Pro version, the author gave an evaluation of the selection start screen.

Win8
Compared to previous versions of the system, the most intuitive change can be said to be the new Win8 UI Design, and the start screen is the best embodiment of this. .

The new start screen replaces the previous version of the start menu, and since then the controversy has been endless, and the software for the various simulation start menus has sprung up, and even more has actually introduced a paid version; in addition, borrowed The sound of this hype has also intensified, and it is not uncommon for the next generation system to resume the guess of the start menu.

As a user of Windows 8 system, from the previous CP to the current Pro, the change of the start screen is also very familiar. According to the terms of use of personal experience, or more recommended new start screen some more, for the following reasons:

1. Start screen can be rendered more information

Figure 1 Windows 8 Start Screen with Live tiles

In the start screen, you can turn on the live tile and scroll different content on the tile, even if you don't open the app, you can preview the updated content. For example, the news application will scroll the news and related images. In the social application, the dynamics of the friends will be displayed on the tile, and the QQ will also display the received messages, so that the user can view whether the application needs to be opened. And these, as long as you log in to your personal account, you don't need to launch the app to display it.

In addition to the content of the application, the start screen is more inclined to display the software, and the text used is smaller. So if the application chooses a better icon, you can visually see the purpose of the application, which is more convenient for promotion.

Figure 5 Windows 7 Start Menu

In the Windows 7 start menu, everything looks not so straightforward. For example, the Windows Live Mail application, even if new mail arrives, will not change anything, it is still the same. At the same time, the icon and the text are the same size. If you view it under all applications, it is not easy to find the destination program.

At the same time, Windows 8 start screen will also support more content locked to the start screen, such as folders, websites and shortcuts And the locking operation is more convenient, just right click on the folder/shortcut or select “ld to fixed to the start screen” in IE 10 to complete the fixed operation. In Windows 7, it is a lot of trouble.

2. Start Screen can be managed

of tile in the Start menu, you can according to their need for magnetic The position of the stickers is adjusted, and the tiles can be grouped and named. Even if there is no touch screen device, the mouse wheel can be used to quickly slide left and right. After being reduced, the positioning can be performed according to the grouping, and the purpose of the application is faster. Apps that are not commonly used can be unpinned directly from the start screen and can be opened by searching for keywords.

Figure 8 Start Menu displaying recently opened programs

From the Start menu, the management of the program is not so easy.

By default, the most recently opened programs and files are recorded in the Start menu, but this is not necessarily convenient, as it is likely that all the files and programs in the list are not what we need. Finally, you have to open it in other locations. In addition, since multiple programs are frequently opened, the positions in the list also change frequently, so in the end, it is rarely clicked in the start menu. Even if you turn off “save recent ” and turn on the “lock & rdquo; function, due to space constraints, you can't fix enough programs as you start the screen, and finally forget this important area.

3. The start screen can lock more porcelain stickers

As shown in the previous figure, in Windows 7, “Recently opened” and “Lock” program plus Only 10 programs can be displayed, and more programs will be stored but not displayed. Under the "All Programs" menu, only 20 programs can be displayed without scrolling, and the arrangement is very dense.

In Windows 8, up to 40 applications can be displayed on one screen, which is twice as large as Windows 7. Although it is not so useful for practical use and easy to find in actual use, it is enough to be convenient. Moreover, the sticker can be arranged in different positions according to the needs of the user, and can be quickly opened with the mouse wheel, and does not need to move too much distance, which is very convenient.

In Windows 8 & ldquo; All Programs & rdquo; list, a separate application will be classified in alphabetical order, and in the file Items that appear in the folder are also viewed in groups, which is very convenient.

And in Windows 7, sucked individual files and folders mix, in order to display more content and Without expanding the folder, it is better to find it than to start the screen.

Note: All of the above are data at 1366*768 resolution. If other resolutions are used, there may be different results.

4. The program can be uninstalled under the start screen

Figure 11 AppBar in Start Screen

For the desktop program, after selecting it in the start screen, it will be like on the desktop. The right-click menu generally has several useful options, such as pinning to the taskbar, uninstalling, running as an administrator, and opening a file location.

Compared to the previous Windows 7, the most useful feature is the uninstall feature. This is not to say that the other is not important, but rather to compare with the previous start menu, other functions can be achieved. In Windows 7, if you need to uninstall the program, you need to find "Uninstaller" in the control panel, which may not be known to the novice. But in Windows 8, you can quickly open the uninstaller in the Control Panel by simply clicking "Uninstall". Of course, for applications under the Windows 8 new interface, clicking on it will uninstall the app directly.

5. Compatible with a variety of devices

Perhaps this is believed to have been described by the promoters for countless times, starting with the first glance in different tablets and variants. The menu, because it is really easy to use, don't need to talk much here.

But it is because of the excessive promotion that many users who have not really used Windows 8 mistakenly believe that it is not suitable for non-touch devices. But this is not the case, so put such an important one at the end.

It can be said that I have had the opportunity to experience the touch screen device for a period of time in the pre-show in Shanghai, but in more time, the keyboard and mouse are still operated on the non-touch device. Convenience. It can be said that almost every gesture has a corresponding function of the mouse and keyboard to achieve the corresponding function, and at most, the effect of switching at the time of implementation is different. If you switch between open applications, the touch screen only needs to be swiped in from the left side of the screen. The mouse can point the pointer to the upper left corner and then pull down. In the open application, the keyboard user can use WInKey + Tab. The time required to switch to the same application and the ease of operation are similar. Everyone over-emphasized touch-screen devices, perhaps because of the excellent performance of this system in the touch screen. However, as a working device, you can't look for the novelty of the interface separately, but also pay attention to the changes in the details of Windows 8.

In addition, the advantages included in the Windows 7 start menu, such as: can be quickly searched, can be quickly called out through the WinKey button, etc., will not be repeated here.

Although personally feels that it is more convenient to start the screen, for many reasons, many people still prefer to stay under the traditional start menu. They have shown in a small survey that the main reason for not accepting the start screen is as follows. After that, I also gave a personal answer:

1. After installing the program, I will add a lot of tiles to the start screen, and continue to list them.

It can be said that this is an excuse for the least reason. First, in the previous Start menu, a new program is installed, and if a selection is made, a new folder is also generated in the Start menu and cannot be managed. But in the start screen, we can manage the tiles. For tiles that you don't want to see, you can choose to unpin the screen from the start screen. You need to find and run it by keyword or all programs when you need to use it.

2. I don't like the style of starting the screen, switching between the desktop and the start screen produces dizziness.

There are a thousand Hamlet in the eyes of a thousand readers. The Windows 8 Design style does have a big change from the previous Windows, but overall it is not unacceptable. A piece of art, some people may think that it is a masterpiece, or some people think it is worthless. Goddess Faye can wear a quilt to go out, how do I like the style of Windows 8?

As for switching between the traditional desktop and the start screen, it is a personal suggestion to try to unify the theme of the desktop and the style of the start screen. Both have a certain choice. Without a big visual impact, it would be better. Moreover, is it not the mode of switching all mobile device OS? Others say that computers are not the same as mobile phones and tablets, so why not use the "desktop" super-powerful application (Windows 8 will be similar to the previous version of the system as an application)? Locking frequently used programs to the taskbar and saving shortcuts in one place is an option. Switching between programs does not require switching back and forth between the start screens.

3. I am used to the start menu, and suddenly I get in touch with the start screen.

This question can be said to be the thinking of most people at present, and it is for this reason that the application of the simulation start menu continues to appear, but there is really no one that can achieve a pleasing level. However, even in this case, many people insist on using it and are unwilling to accept the start screen.

Personally, there are times when you should use some iron fist policy. If you don't use this feature, there will be no other options. Jobs did this, and he was telling the user what to do, rather than letting the user choose his choice. At this point, if the start menu is really restored, the advantages of the start screen will never be experienced by the user. It can be said that if there is no other person's remarks, the first time I see the start menu and the start screen, what is the result of the choice made?

Over time, more and more users are starting to use Windows 8, I believe that such a reason will not be the reason —— under the general trend, mobile devices will be more and more, start the screen will Accepted by more people.

If you abandon the voices of those people, the real experience, or the forced use of the start screen, how long does it take to get started? —— I don't have this answer, but my answer is that I am used to Windows 8, back to Windows 7, I will find that the start screen is not as unacceptable as everyone's rumors, but even better!

4. I canceled the logo button of the start menu, I am not used to it.

This is similar to the reason for the previous one.

The overall style of Windows 8 is simple and square, and the Microsoft logo has changed with the release of Windows 8. The round shape of the traditional start button does not blend well with the overall style.

Although the start button has been canceled, the thumbnail of the start menu can appear when the mouse hovers over the lower left corner of the screen, and the function is unchanged.

In any case, the start screen has appeared in the daily use system, and his outstanding performance can be seen. Instead of spending a lot of time restoring the incomplete start menu, it's better to experience the changes to the start screen. Perhaps, starting today, you will like this model.
