Windows Server 2008 R2 New Features Overview

We have heard a lot about the desktop version of Windows 7. The latest news is that Microsoft said it will no longer release the Beta version of Windows 7. The next upgrade will be the RC version closest to the final release. It means that the final version is getting closer and closer to us. However, according to Microsoft's enterprise operating system roadmap, the server version of Windows 7 may be released later, and will not be officially released until 2010.

Microsoft Enterprise Operating System Roadmap

From the roadmap, you can see the latest enterprise operating system, which is the Windows 7 server version. The development code "Windows 7 Server" is named, but named "Windows Server 2008 R2", which means that the server version of Windows 7 is not like a major product upgrade from Win 2000 Server to Win 2003, but only existing Windows. An update to Server 2008 can be understood as an enhanced version of Win 2008.

At the Professional Developers Conference (PDC2008) at the end of October 2008, Microsoft first demonstrated the Pre-Beta version of Windows Server 2008 R2, but the version was not perfect at the time, and no download trial was available. Until January 10, 2009, Microsoft released a beta version of Windows Server 2008 R2 on its website to provide users with a free 30-day download trial. The beta version includes the Standard Edition, Enterprise Edition, Data Center Edition, Web Edition, and Itanium Edition. The test version is only available in English.
