The Real service is Real's streaming media server software, the latest version is Helix Server. It provides support for almost all popular streaming media formats such as RM, RMVB, FLASH, RP/RT, MPEG-1, MPEG-4, QuickTime, ASF/WMA. Let's take a look at how to set up, configure, and manage a Helix Server video on demand server in Windows 2003.

I. Building Helix Server

Helix Server software can be downloaded from the official website or from many well-known software websites in China. It should be noted that before installing Helix Server, you should confirm that you have obtained the service authorization file. Of course, if you register with the official website of Helix Server, you can get a free trial 12-month license file (extension .lic).

(1) Double-click to run the downloaded Helix Producer Plus, which will first self-extract and then display the Setup Of Helix Server installation wizard.

(2) Click the Next button, type the file name of the authorization file and the folder where it is located, that is, the path to save the requested authorization file. Of course, you can also click the Browse button to find and locate it. The document.

(3) Click the Next button and ask the user to read the usage agreement in detail.

(4) Click on the Accept button to accept the agreement and the installation path dialog will be displayed. It is recommended to use the system defaults to save the application files in the system partition. Since all streaming media files will also be saved in this folder by default, you should modify the save path of the streaming media files after the installation is complete.

(5) Click the Next button. Since Helix Server is remotely managed, you need to set a username and password to remotely manage the service. Type the username in the Username text box, and type the same password in the Password text box and the Confirm Password text box.

(6) Click the Next button to specify the listening port of the server when the PNA mode is connected. The default value is 7070. The system default value is recommended here.

(8) Click the Next button, here is required to set the HTTP listening port, the default is 80. Since port 80 is the default port of the web service, when the computer is configured as a web server at the same time, the value should be changed to other unoccupied port numbers (such as 8080, etc.) to avoid service failure due to port conflict. .

(9) Click the Next button, where you can set the MMS port number, the default port number is 1755. If the server has Windows Media Services installed at the same time, you need to modify the port number. Otherwise, it is recommended to keep the system defaults.

Since the administrator can remotely manage the server in the web mode, the port number is randomly generated for security reasons, and generally does not need to be modified. Of course, for the sake of memory, the corresponding modification can also be made.

(11) Click the Next button and select the Install Helix Server as an NT service checkbox. This will cause HelixServer to start in the "service" That is, when the computer is restarted, the service can automatically start running in the background even if no users are logged in.

(12) Click the Next button, where all the information such as the set port, user name, installation path, etc. will be displayed. If you think there is a problem with a setting, you can click the Back button to return to the check and make the appropriate changes.

(13) Click the Finish button to start the system installation process. After the installation is complete, the Helix Server has been successfully installed.

Select the Helix Server option in the "Services" list, right-click and select the “Start” command from the pop-up shortcut menu, or reboot the computer.

After completing the above settings, you can start the Helix Server management window for management.

Second, managing and configuring Helix Server

After the Helix Server installation is complete, it does not immediately provide video on demand services. First you must bind the IP address to allow users to access it. In addition, since the default home directory (that is, the installation directory) is a system partition, it should also be modified to a data partition with a larger disk capacity.

1. Double-click the Helix Server Administrator icon on the desktop, or click the “Start”->“All Programs>->HelixServer->Helix Server Administrator option to enter Server management window. Of course, you can also enter it manually. For example, when managing on a remote computer, you can first open IE browser, and then type in the address bar “http://Real server IP address: management port number /admin/index.html” And press Enter, the login dialog will be displayed, prompting for a username and password. If the user is always managing on the local computer, you can check the box in front of the "Remember my password" option so that you can go directly to the management interface next time. However, if you are using this dialog on other computers, you should not check this option to avoid being used by others.
