How to turn Windows Vista into an FTP server on the LAN

Deploy a LAN FTP server, which is convenient for users to upload and download resources. It is the optimal solution for LAN file sharing. We know that XP system can be turned into an FTP server. Vista has now entered the user's computer. How to deploy an FTP server with Vista?

First, install IIS in Vista

Open the “Control Panel” window of the Vista operating system, click the “Programs” option in the window, and click “Open or close the Windows function” link in the open page. In the pop-up dialog box, expand the “Internet Information Service” option, and check the “FTP Publishing Service” and “FTP Server” and “FTP Management Console” options that appear under it. Second, create an FTP site

Double-click the computer name on the page that appears, select the expanded “FTP site”, click “click here to launch”link. In the pop-up window, expand the “Internet Information Service & Rarr; Local Computer & Rarr; FTP Site” option on the device side list. Step Two: In the pop-up & ldquo; FTP Site Creation Wizard & rdquo; dialog box, set the FTP server IP address and port number (usually selected port number 21) Click “Next” button, in the “FTP User Isolation” page, click “Do not quarantine user” to allow users to access other folders on the FTP server. If you click the option & ldquo; Quarantine User & rdquo;, the user will only be able to access the specified folder. Click the “Next” button, then click the “Browse” button on the page to select the FTP server's home folder. (Figure 4)

The third step: then enter & ldquo; FTP site access & rdquo; dialog, just check & ldquo; read & rdquo; optional items, the average user will not be able to upload, Delete and modify files. Checking the "Write" option will give the user full FTP site permissions. When the above settings are completed, click the “Complete" button to create the FTP server. (Figure 5)

Tip: When using a user name and password specified can download all the resources, do not allow upload function, you should disable the FTP server of & ldquo; anonymous access & rdquo; function, otherwise The anonymous user has the "Write" permission because the FTP server has set the "Write" permission for the main directory.

Comments: Using the XP operating system IIS5.1 to configure the FTP server, when setting the FTP folder, no matter whether the folder is in the NTFS partition or the FAT partition, the "privilege" command is not provided. However, by default, users with different permissions still have different usage rights for folders located on the NTFS partition on the FTP server.

Fourth, open access to the FTP port

When we log in to the FTP server in Vista from XP, there will be a situation where the FTP server cannot be opened. What is the reason? This is the case Because there is no setting for the firewall that comes with Vista. Go to the “Control Panel” window and select the “Security” component.
