VISTA and XP dual boot are used by many people, but VISTA and XP dual boot is very different from our previous winxp and 98 startup, the repair method is also different. .

One, dual system sharing

1. New installation of dual system

This is related to the startup dual system problem, will modify the Vista BootManager, add WinXP boot information to In the BCD file. In the Vision Forum, I posted a patch to Vista and other Windows multi-boot menus via bcdedit.exe (Vista----X:\\Windows\\system32\\). This is a command-line program that will use a lot of The command is extremely inconvenient for ordinary users. So I suggest you use VistaBootPro1.0. VistaBootPro 1.0 provides a graphical user interface, and it is not difficult to modify the settings at a glance.

Installation Instructions for VistaBootPro1.0:

1WndowsXP system must have Microsoft.NET Framework2.0 installed to install this software.

After installing Windows Vista system, you must right-click on the program or its shortcut, select "Run with administrator account" or close "UAC"; otherwise, there will be an error prompt box with insufficient permissions. .

3 If the system is equipped with a firewall, it must be allowed to access the network.

How to use VistaBootPro1.0:

1CurrentSettings: Here you can view the current boot manager configuration information, check the previous recommendation to select “File→CheckforUpdates” to detect, or execute &ldquo ;RescanBCDRegistry” rescan to ensure that the current configuration information is up to date.

2ChangeSettings: Users can set the default startup operating system here, select it directly from the drop-down list box, and use it in much the same way as “SystemProperties→Advanced→StartupandRecovery”, click ““ The Apply!” button will take effect. It must be noted that the option to remove VistaBootLoader is also provided here, but please be careful before using it, because you will not be able to enter Vista after deletion.

3ManageEntries: Here you can adjust the order of each item in the multi-boot menu, you can select it by the two buttons “&>Up” and “Down”, of course, you can also delete a startup item here. You can also add an operating system here. For example, I am adding an operating system named " WindowsXPSP2Professional“", where the bootloader is located on the disk "”C“.

4Backup/Restore: This is a special feature of VistaBootPRO. We can back up the current settings to a file and restore the previous personalization settings at any time.

5 Under the “Tools” menu, select “LegackEditor” to open the Notepad and edit the boot.ini file. Of course, you can only modify the startup project except WindowsVista.

After setting, use the command “bcdedit” to view the settings

Method: 1Open “Run" (Start > Run), enter cmd

2Enter bcdedit

Boot File Backup

After the setup is complete and restarted, the dual system is used. Now it is important to do a file backup. Backup is very important. These files are hidden, you must open the folder option to set,

(1) The backup boot file is (the file is located in the "current bootloader disk", such as the C drive): Boot (folder) ;autoexec.bat;bootmgr.sys;config.sys;BOOTSECT.BAK;boot.ini;bootfont.bin;IO.SYS;MSDOS.SYS;NTDETECT.COM;ntldr.sys where Boot(folder);autoexec.bat ;bootmgr.sys;config.sys;BOOTSECT.BAK for Vista boot, and boot.ini;bootfont.bin;IO.SYS;MSDOS.SYS;NTDETECT.COM;ntldr.sys for WinXP boot.

(2) Back up the BCD file: 1Open “Run” and start cmd

2Enter bcdedit/export"X:\\XXX\\bcd"

Restore BCD file: 1Open “Run> (Start > Run), type cmd

2Enter bcdedit/import"X:\\XXX\\bcd"

I am putting Back up the BCD file to the folder “f:\\123\\" and restore it from the folder “f:\\123\\". The BCD file is located in the folder "C:\\Boot\\".

2. Reinstall the dual system

But there is a problem, some people have to reinstall WinXP or Vista. There is no dual system boot menu after installation, there are two forms here.

First: Vista is installed on the C drive, Vista does not move, reinstall WinXP.

Method 1: Since WinXP is reinstalled, WinXP does not move the boot file on the C drive, so only the previously backed up BCD files can be restored. (Recommended)

Method 2: Use the method of VistaBootPro1.0 again.

Second: Vista is installed on the C drive, WinXP does not move, reinstall Vista.

Because Vista is installed on the C drive, after the installation, the boot files of WinXP in the C drive will disappear, then copy the WinXP boot file to the C drive. Then use the method of restoring the BCD file to restore the dual system boot menu.

Note: This method must ensure that the boot files of WinXP and Vista in the C drive are not lost. It is recommended to back them up after the system is installed. It is best to back them up.
