Vista series skills: often encounter system troubleshooting

Any system may be faulty, Windows Vista trial version has a lot of problems, let's take a look at Windows Vista, start fault troubleshooting And recovery is very simple, even an inexperienced user can easily deal with common startup failures.

First, the boot sector of the system partition is broken

The boot sector is destroyed, and the system will not start properly. In Windows 2000/XP, you also need to enter the recovery console. Fixmbr (fix master boot record) or fixboot (fix boot sector) command.

In Windows Vista, the same method is used to let the system automatically detect the startup failure, and Windows Vista can live up to expectations, and it is easy to find the crux of the problem and automatically use the BCDMD command to fix it.

If you don't have a system startup failure, just want to test the "intelligence" of Windows Vista, then Windows Vista will politely and firmly say that the startup fix can't detect the problem.

From the performance of the startup recovery feature, Windows Vista is undoubtedly reassuring. It is commendable that the system does not require us to have the ability to judge faults, but to give all the work to Windows Vista to do it, which should be affirmed.

Second, Vista wallpaper interpolation solution

Although this may not be the point to locate it, but it is indeed a flaw, and exists in vista RC2. When using images as desktop wallpapers, Windows Vista will be responsible for maintaining the image aspect ratio, but when compared to Windows XP, when the image is stretched to fit the screen resolution, Vista will not interpolate the image. So that there is a sawing phenomenon. In the next two figures, the left image is an example proof of the problem, which clearly lacks interpolation (also known as the jagged edge); it appears smoother.

Vista wallpaper interpolation problem

Sawtooth is caused by the lack of image interpolation. The so-called image interpolation is a process of image data reproduction - it reproduces an image data with high resolution from the original image.

In Vista, JPEG interpolation via the desktop control panel is not performed correctly. One of the most immediate results is that when you stretch a picture with a different screen resolution as a wallpaper, an undesired visual effect will appear. This shortcoming seems to only appear on JPEG images, while BMP images are able to accept correct interpolation from the control panel.

The "Set as desktop background" feature can solve this problem. The "Set as desktop background" feature takes advantage of the PIX engine used by the Windows Photo Gallery program. PIX supports image interpolation, and when you set a picture as a wallpaper, you can use it well. As for why the Windows Photo Gallery program does not use image interpolation for photos when zooming in on the image, this may be categorized by Microsoft's alternative design.

Three, Win Vista sidebar weather failure

Chinese version of the Vista system "Weather" gadget can not be used for reasons that have been confirmed not because of the system language, but because of the regional settings.

1 Open Control Panel > Clock, Language & Regions > Regional and Language Options.

Set "Current Format" to "English (United States)"

Go to "Location" and set "Current Location" to "United States"

Go "Manage", click "Change System Locale", set to "English (United States)"

After restarting the computer, the Weather widget is ready to use.

2. Click the Settings button in the upper right corner of the Weather Widget and enter the name of the city you are looking for in English or Pinyin in the "Current Location" text box. For example, Beijing can enter "beijing" or "peking" ", Urumqi can enter "wulumuqi" or "urumqi", press Enter to find the city you want.

3. Note: After setting the area to the US, the system number/currency/time/date will be displayed in English, and non-Unicode programs (QQ, etc.) will not be able to display Chinese characters.

You can click "Customize this format" in the regional and language options to reset the number/currency/time/date according to Chinese habits.

Fourth, the boot manager lost fault

If the boot manager bootmgr in the root directory of the C drive is damaged or lost, the system will prompt to find the operating system when starting the computer, this is similar The ntldr file on Windows 2000/XP is missing.

Under Windows 2000/XP, to solve this type of failure, you first need to know that the cause of the failure is that the boot manager is lost, then enter the recovery console, and use the expand command at the command prompt to install the ntldr in the installation CD. Extract the file copy to the root directory of the C drive.

It’s very simple in Windows Vista. We don’t need to know what is causing the system to fail to start. Just follow the steps below:

(1)First reject with Windows Vista Strike Series 1 - The method of sesame opening, use the Windows Vista installation CD to boot the system into the "System Recovery Options" and click on "Start Repair".

(2) The system searches for the cause of the startup failure in the order in which it is set. In the background of the system, the startup recovery checker will automatically test and analyze Windows updates (if the patch fails, it may also cause startup failure), system disk, disk error, disk metadata, target operating system, startup log and so on.

(3) If the system finds the cause of the startup failure and fixes it, it will enter a dialog box prompting that it has been found and trying to fix the problem.

(4) Windows Vista does not display the cause of the fault by default. Click the “Finish” button to restart the computer to complete the recovery.

If you need to see the cause of the failure, you can click "Click here for details on diagnosis and repair" on this dialog. On the dialog that opens, we can see that the root cause found is that the Boot Manager is missing and the required file repair tool has been successfully completed.

V. Screenshots under Vista

Sometimes the screenshots after using the Vista operating system will be screened. This is an old problem, mainly due to the driver. Since Vista is still in the testing phase, the drivers for each hardware under Vista are not perfect, and some have compatibility issues. So it will cause a variety of problems. This problem needs to wait for the hardware vendor to release the driver under the new Vista to solve.

Six, solve the problem of Wins under Win Vista.

The drive letter is the old problem of Microsoft. Microsoft's Windows installation CD has always been in its own program to confirm the drive letter of the hard disk partition, but this time Vista is more aggressive. When booting from the CD, the drive letter of the partition to which it is installed is forcibly changed to C. The following other drive letters are also arranged according to the previous Microsoft Windows installation conventions.

Vista's drive letter is out of order, so I have to adjust it and install it again. The method is to restore the wrong drive letter to the previous look in Vista. For example, in the previous case, it should be restored to: C: -> Z: -> F: , D: -> C: , Then restart Vista, of course, when the drive is restored, it will prompt a lot of errors, and neither Explorer nor Computer can browse. At this time, you can only use the "Win+R" shortcut to start the "Run" box to confirm that the drive letter has been restored to the original normal state. Then directly type Setup.exe under your Vista installation CD (or Vista installation ISO virtual drive). For example, your CD-ROM drive letter is X:, put the installation CD into it. Enter X:Setup.exe in the Run to run the Vista installation. This way, when the drive is upgraded or the new custom installation is performed directly, the drive letter is normal, and the installation program in the installation CD will not recognize and arbitrarily make claims. Of course, if some hardware is not standard and incompatible, it may not be upgraded. Then the new installation, the old Vista will be automatically backed up to a Windows.old directory by the installer. Just you must install it under this existing Vista, otherwise you will start the installation from the CD-ROM drive, the drive letter will still be confused. Because the drive letter in your existing Vista has been adjusted, the installer will refer to the original correct drive letter when doing an upgrade or a new installation under it. However, it is annoying enough. Even if the installation is done twice, the drive letter is correct, but the identification of the partition letter on the installation CD is still a big problem.

If your system is broken, you need to use Vista's installation CD to repair it. Vista installation CD will still be very good at discriminating the drive letter when you perform System Recovery, just start with CD-ROM installation. When the drive letter is confused, it is a truth.

Eight, find the lost "Run" command

If you pay attention, you will no longer see the very familiar "Run" command at the bottom of the start menu, which is too Inconvenient, for example, when you need to run certain commands, you will feel very uncomfortable. In fact, we can use the following two methods to solve:

(1) Press the "Win+R" key combination to open the running dialog box that is suspected to disappear;

( 2) Right-click on the blank space of the start menu or taskbar, open the "Taskbar and Start Menu Properties" dialog box, switch to the "Start Menu" tab, click the "Customize" button, and check "Run Command" in the list box.
