Why is there no response to playing AVI files in XP

Recently I got a lot of broadband in my home and downloaded a lot of movies. I stumbled upon the fact that when I clicked on a large AVI video file, WinXP will stop responding. In the process, I found that the CPU usage of the Explorer.exe process is 100. %, taking up time is up to two hours!

Initially suspected to be a virus, after upgrading Kaspersky stand-alone version, it was completely checked and killed, no virus was found, and access to other programs including REAL video files was not abnormal. Is it that Windows Mediaplayer does not have the relevant plugins installed? But this is a normal file access at the resource manager level, and there is no video playback involved! With the luck of using the player to automatically upgrade, the fault remains.

Checked the Microsoft Knowledge Base and finally found Microsoft's explanation for this problem: When clicking a large AVI file in the Explorer, the system needs to scan the file first and perform a loop to check the file. All parts, in order to build an index, if the file is large (more than 700MB) and there is no index information in the file, the system will take longer to query the index of the file, and the CPU usage is higher. Microsoft said that there are fixes for WinXP SP1 and above, but did not leave a download address, only gave a free call. I tried to make a phone call, I needed to register, and I needed user information. When I transferred to the engineer, I said it for a long time. Mad! Simply turn off the indexing function of this folder!

The method is very simple: right click on the target folder, select "Properties - General - Advanced", remove the check box in front of the "For the quick search, allow the index service to index the folder", Then click OK and apply, the system will ask you whether to apply the changes to all folders and files, if you can't stand this indexing service, then choose to apply to all folders.
