XP/2003 System Service Backup and Protection

1. Backup System Service

Before configuring and managing the system service, it is very important to back up the system service. Once an error occurs, it can be restored to the normal state immediately. . Here, we introduce direct backup of the service-related content in the registry.

(1) Run the Registry Editor, and then expand the registry HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetServices.

(2) Click the "File → Export" menu command, in the dialog box that appears, click the "Selected Branch" option, export and save the registry contents under this branch as a REG file . If you need to restore the system service, you can directly double-click the REG file to import the registry.

2. Disaster Protection

If you accidentally disable an important service due to your misuse, Windows will not start, so you cannot restart the corresponding service. It has caused a vicious circle. In this case, we can only use the system console for manual recovery. In the system console, we are free to launch any service or control service startup type.

Insert the Windows XP installation CD into the CD-ROM drive, and then set the CD-ROM drive to priority in the BIOS. When you start the computer and enter the "Welcome to the Installer" interface, follow the prompts and press the R key to enter the Windows XP "Recovery Console" interface. Select the system you need to repair and type the system administrator password.

At the command prompt, we need to use the "Enable" and "Disable" commands. The command format of Enable is "enable [service_name] [startup_type]"; the format of the disable command is "disable [service_name]". Here, [service_name] is the name of the service or device that you want to enable/disable, and [startup_type] is the type of startup that indicates a different startup type. Available types include Service_disabled, Service_boot_start, Service_system_start, Service_auto_start, and Service_demand_start.

Let's take the example of disabling the system help in Windows XP. First, set the startup type of the service to disabled and then re-enable it.

(1) Enter the "Recovery Console" interface, run the "listsvc" command to view the running status of various services. Here, we can see that the system help service is started, enter "disable helpsvc" Command and press Enter to disable the system help service.

(2) If you need to restart the service and set the service to run automatically with the system, you can enter the "enable helpsvc service_boot_start" command to enter.
