Share the best way to restrict access to your computer's disk using Windows XP Group Policy

  


First click on “Start →Run” in the lower left corner of Windows, and enter “gpedit.msc” in the dialog box, which opens the Group Policy Settings window. Then in the window, open the "Local Computer Policy & Rarr; User Configuration & Rarr; Management Template & Rarr; Windows Components & Rarr; Windows Resource Manager" option. In the "Settings" setting on the right side, "protect from the ‘My Computer & rsquo; Access Drive" option, right click on this option's "Not Configured" and select "Properties".

There are three options in the pop-up dialog box, "Unconfigured", "Allowed", and "Disabled" (Figure 2). Select “Enabled”, then a list of pull-down menus for selecting drives will appear. If you want to restrict the use of a hard drive, hard drive partition or even an optical drive, just select the drive. For example, we want to limit the use of system disk C, select “ only limit the drive C & rdquo; If you want to turn off all hard drives, optical drives, etc., you can check "Restrict all drives" and click Apply or OK to save your settings.


Users who use computers have their own secret files, especially for business users, naturally they are not willing to let others use their own computers, so as not to cause leakage of trade secrets. But sometimes it's a bit ugly to not let others use their own computers. In fact, we can lock the hard drive of the computer with a simple setup, so that others can access the restricted disk.

This method is set up with Windows XP Group Policy, which is very convenient and practical.

Next, go to  My Computer", click on the C drive or other restricted drive, there will be a prompt for access failure. It is worth mentioning that this method of setting Group Policy is safe. Very high, even if someone else through the "Resource Manager", "Run" dialog box, web browser and DIR commands, etc., can not view the files in the drive. In this way, users simply put all the important files in a partition and limit them, so they are not afraid of others discovering their secrets.
