Windows XP Broadband Application Tips

Nowadays, there are more and more friends using high-speed Internet access such as ADSL and LAN. For example, the LAN mode broadband Internet access provided by the city where the author is located is not limited (but the traffic is limited to 512KB). It costs only 80 yuan a month. It is really a pleasure. If you have upgraded to the Windows XP operating environment, then the following broadband tips are a must:

1. Check the broadband connection status

Just from the "Start/Control Panel" Open the "Dial-up Network" window, as shown in Figure 1, you can see that an available connection has been established under "LAN or High-speed Internet Connection". The default name of this available connection is "Local Area Connection", in order to use Convenient, the author has renamed it "broadband connection." Double-click the icon or execute the "Status" command from the shortcut menu, you can see a window as shown in Figure 1, from which you can see the status of this connection (whether connected), duration (connected time) And many other useful parameters such as speed.

2. Disconnect the broadband connection

I use the LAN LAN mode to access the Internet, I don't need a dial-up connection every time, I can access the Internet when I turn it on. It is very convenient. Some friends may want to temporarily disconnect the broadband connection, but can't find the "disconnect" command from the shortcut menu. Is it necessary to unplug the network cable?

Of course not needed, we can right click on "Local Area Connection" and execute the "Deactivate" command in the shortcut menu, so that you can disconnect. When you want to connect again later, just execute the "Enable" command. However, after testing, I found that when the broadband connection is disabled, the connection is easy to fail when it is enabled again, and the "repair" command can be executed.

3. Using the built-in firewall

In the "Properties" window, click on the "Advanced" tab and check "Protect me by restricting or blocking access to this computer from the Internet." After the "Computer and Network" checkbox, you can get a free firewall protection, why not?

4. Achieving Broadband ICS

Now that broadband has been used, why not let other computers in your home enjoy it? Below, the author introduces to friends a few tips for implementing broadband ICS (Internet Connection Sharing) in Windows XP through an example:

(1) Guarantee ICS from hardware

First, we must Physically connect the computer (I use the desktop and laptop in my home for example). For the average home user, it is relatively simple to set up a peer-to-peer network, which means that each computer can communicate directly with each other. Therefore, one of the services that can be realized by implementing the resource sharing CS without a dedicated server is required.

Simply put, you need to prepare the network card, five twisted pair, crystal head and other things. Please pay attention to the direction and line arrangement when making the connector of the network cable. If you are not sure, you can Refer to the previous articles in this newspaper, or simply ask the computer company's technical
staff to help you with the network cable, so you can avoid a lot of trouble.

(2) Set up peer-to-peer network

Each computer should be equipped with a network card. The computer as the ICS host should have two network cards (preferably the desktop as the host), one of which is a network card. Connected to the broadband network, the other is connected to the laptop through the network cable, respectively installed the driver of the network card, WindowsXP can automatically identify the vast majority of network cards, in addition to the need to add TCP /IP, NWLinkIPX /SPX /NetBIOSCompatibleTransport , NWLinkNetBiOS and other protocols, this can be done by right-clicking on "My Network Places" → "Properties" → "Local Area Connection" → "Properties" → "Installation" → "Protocol". If all goes well, you can quickly see each other's computers in Network Neighborhood.

(3) Configuring the ICS host

Before configuring, you need to confirm that there is an active Internet connection on the ICS host (that is, the desktop), that is, check the ICS first. Whether the host can access the Internet normally. Then, you can click on “Control Panel” → “Network Connection” → “Network Task” to select “Set Home or Small 旃纭 瘢馐 瘢馐 瘢馐 瘢馐 岢鱿 岢鱿 岢鱿 岢鱿 岢鱿 岢鱿 岢鱿 岢鱿冢嫠吣阋恍┩绨沧跋虻嫉淖(14)馐孪睿恿慊髁酱巍跋乱徊健卑磁ズ蠡岢鱿? The window shown, this step is more critical, please friends carefully Now.

Now we should choose the first item "This computer is directly connected to the Internet. Other computers on my network connect to the Internet through this computer, and then continue to click Next

to select a correct Internet connection (because there are two network cards in the ICS host, there are two corresponding Internet connection, one connected to the broadband network, the other connected to the laptop), if you really can't tell, you can go to "Control Panel /Network Connection" to see it. The following steps can be ignored, press "Next" all the way, window, here you need to select "Create Network Installation Disk", insert a blank floppy disk according to the prompt, create a network installation disk according to the prompts of the wizard .

At this point, the ICS host has been fully configured.

Note: Under normal circumstances, Windows XP will automatically configure the IP address, no longer need to be manually configured.

(4) Configuring the ICS Client

Now, we can insert the network installation disk we just created on the desktop into the floppy drive of the laptop, then double-click "My Computer" to find Double-click the "netsetup.exe" file on the "3.5-inch floppy disk (A:)". The first thing you see is a welcome window that tells you "Windows must install some network support files before restarting, and may restart the computer. If Running Windows XP, the wizard will start immediately. Do you want to continue?", of course, click "Yes". After clicking the "Next" button twice, select "Yes" to use the existing shared connection for Internet access (recommended) for this computer. The choice here is exactly the opposite of Figure 5 on the previous ICS host, friend Do you remember?

After clicking the "Next" button, the wizard gives two choices "Determine the appropriate connection for me" and "Let me choose the connection to my network". From the author In terms of experience, it is recommended that friends choose the latter, so that the degree of freedom is greater. Click "Next" and then select the connection to connect this computer to other network computers according to the actual situation in Figure 7, and then just follow The default setting can be completed by clicking "Next" a few times.

Ok, now I can try it on the laptop, can I open the IE webpage and run it. QQ? As long as your original "Network Neighborhood" can see each other, then ICS should be no problem.

Note: In order to ensure the smooth implementation of ICS, two computers are required to use The same version of the operating system, this can reduce a lot of trouble.

How about, after such a simple setup, surfing on the broadband fast lane is more comfortable?
