Recover deleted Windows desktop icons

There are two main ways to reproduce the deleted default icons: (1) control panel method; (2) group policy method. The specific process varies depending on the version of Windows. The Control Panel method is applicable to Windows 2000 operating systems, while the Group Policy rule applies to Windows 2000 and later operating systems. (Note that the operating system for each method is available!!)

Recover the "My Documents" icon using the Control Panel method. The procedure is as follows: Open "Control Panel → Folder Options" and select "View" ", in the "Advanced Settings" found "display my 'documents on the desktop'" item, left click on the check box in front of it, until the small hook "√" appears in the box, then use the mouse Left click on the "Confirm" button on the "Folder Options" screen.

Use the control panel method to restore the "Internet Explorer" icon. The operation procedure is as follows: Open "Internet Explorer", select "Advanced", and find "Show Internet Explorer on the desktop" in the "Settings" box. Left mouse click on the check box in front of it until the small hook "√" appears in the box, then use the left mouse button to click the "confirm" button on the "Internet Properties" interface.

Recover the "My Documents" icon using Group Policy. The operation procedure is as follows: Open the "Run" input box from "Start → Run", enter "gpedit.msc" in the input box, and click "Confirm" The gpedit.msc file will bring up the "Group Policy" configuration window. In this window, click the plus sign in front of "Management Module" under "User Configuration", expand the "Manage Module" folder, and select the folder. "Desktop" folder (there will be all options for "Desktop → Settings" on the right side), select "Delete the 'My Computer' icon on the desktop" in the right content box, right click and bring up the function menu. Select and click "Properties" to open the "Delete My Computer Icon Properties" dialog box on the desktop. Under the "Settings" column, you can see three radio buttons "Not Configured" and "(Already enabled)". And "(already disabled)", put the radio button in the "unconfigured" or "already disabled" state.

Restore the "Internet Explorer", "My Computer" and "My Network Places" icons in Group Policy, which is the same as restoring the "My Documents" icon. The difference is that in the "Desktop → Settings" option, the specific objects selected are different. "Internet Explorer" selects "Hide Internet Explorer icon on the desktop"; "My Computer" selects "Delete the 'My Computer' icon on the desktop"; "My Network Places" selects "Hide the "My Network Places" icon on the desktop". However, there are also the following special cases:

(1) In the Windows 2000 operating system, if you use the "Enabled" policy in the Group Policy method to delete or hide an icon, it applies to Windows 2000. The control panel method of the previous operating system will be invalid;

(2) In the Windows XP operating system, the recovery method of the classic mode desktop and the fantasy mode desktop is also different. In Classic mode, the desktop default icon can only be restored in "Display Properties → Desktop → Custom Desktop (D)", but not in Group Policy; in Dream mode, the desktop default icon can be used in Group Policy. Recovery, can also be restored in the start menu (except Internet Explorer).

The default step of desktop default icon recovery in classic mode is: right click on the blank space of the desktop, call up the right-click function menu, select "Properties", open the "Display Properties" dialog box, select "Desktop → Customize" Desktop (D), open the "Desktop Project" dialog box. In the "General" option, there is a "Desktop Icon" column. Like the method of selecting the check box item in the Control Panel Recovery Method, select the unselected item. confirm.

Recovery from the start menu in the fantasy mode. The default method is to open the "Start" menu, find the icon file that needs to be restored, right click on the mouse, and select "Show on desktop" in the right-click function menu to confirm .

Windows desktop icon is a switch to start a certain program or document on the computer. If one day it suddenly disappears or is deleted by mistake (especially the default icons of windows system), what kind of mood will you have? , crying or anger?

Let's talk about how to get it back.

Windows desktop icons fall into two categories: shortcut icons and default icons.

The shortcut icon is mainly created by the application when it is installed or created by the computer user. It is marked with a small arrow from the lower left to the upper right. Deleting it just deletes the boot information from the desktop without deleting the application file or the document itself, so don't worry about its loss. In general, shortcut icons can be deleted.

The default icon is automatically created by the Windows operating system during installation and is marked with a real icon without a small arrow to distinguish it from the shortcut desktop icon under the Windows operating platform. Applications generally cannot create default icons. Therefore, the deletion of the default desktop icon is strictly hidden or not displayed by the system, rather than being completely removed from the recycle bin as if the shortcut icon was deleted. This is also a big difference between the default icon and the shortcut icon.

There are two main ways to reproduce deleted shortcut icons: (1) recovery from the desktop start menu; (2) recovery from the specific file location of my computer.

The first step of the reproduction method is as follows: use the mouse to point to "Start → Program", bring up the application menu, find and select the file you deleted here, right click, call out Right-click the function cascading menu, select “Send to → Desktop shortcut” in the function cascading menu, and click with the left mouse button.

The second reproduction method is as follows: Double-click the "My Computer" icon with the left mouse button to open the "My Computer" window, press the "Ctrl" and "F" key combinations from the keyboard. Open the "File Search Interface" (located on the left side of the "My Computer" window), fill in the file name you deleted in the first input box of the "File Search Interface" (other input boxes are not filled, use the default value ), and then press "Search", the system will automatically find the file you entered, and display all the results found on the right side of the same window. In these results, find the file you deleted, right click, adjust Right-click the cascading function menu, select “Send to → Desktop shortcut” in the function cascading menu, and click with the left mouse button.

These two methods should solve all the shortcut icon recovery problems. But there are two points to be explained: (1) The recovery of the shortcut icon is based on the existence and validity of the real file. If the real file mapped by the shortcut icon is deleted or invalid, don't complain that the method I introduced is wrong. (2) The shortcut files found in the “Start” menu generally have corresponding real files in “My Computer”, but the reverse is not true. The real files found in “My Computer” are in the “Start” menu. It is not necessary to find a shortcut file. Therefore, some shortcut icons included in the non-start menu that are directly mapped from the drive letter or folder to the desktop can only be recovered by the method of "recovering from the specific file location of my computer" instead of "from the desktop. The method of starting menu recovery is restored.
