Internet cafe diskless workstation maintenance knowledge

What maintenance is needed for diskless workstations The diskless teaching network is a teaching network that is built in the form of diskless workstations. A diskless workstation is a "three-no" computer connected to a local area network. Its operating system and running application software are stored in a local area network file server. Many schools are often used because of their low cost, safety and reliability, and easy network maintenance. After the diskless network is built, how to effectively maintain the network?

I. Hardware Maintenance

Hardware is a visible and tangible part of diskless network maintenance, including computers (workstations and servers), network cables, Hubs, and other devices. Network maintenance in hardware is relatively simple:

1. Dust is one of the important causes of computer failure. The computer room should be cleaned frequently; clean slippers should be worn during computer class; regularly use a brush to remove dust from the main unit power supply, hub (hub), network cable connector, CPU fan, motherboard, and memory.

2. Since the computer generates a lot of heat during the operation, the computer room should be kept ventilated, and if necessary, air conditioning can be provided.

3. The computer room should maintain a certain humidity, should not be too dry or too wet.

4. In order to prevent the diskless network server from malfunctioning due to sudden power failure during operation, a small UPS should be prepared for it. If necessary, a voltage regulator and UPS can be installed for the entire network.

5. According to the actual situation of the school, develop a computer room management system.

Second, software maintenance

Computer room software maintenance involves many computer network expertise, especially diskless network, installation and setup is more complicated. In terms of diskless network maintenance, the author believes that "perfect backup" is a good side. The so-called "perfect backup" means that when the teaching network is running normally, the key files and directories in the network server are backed up, and when the server has a problem, the backup files and directories are copied back to the server to repair the fault.

1. Back up the "X:WinntRpl" directory in the Windows NT Server 4.0 (hereafter referred to as NTS 4.0) server ("X" is the partition where the system is located). The booting of the Windows 9x diskless workstation is to send a remote boot request to the server through the BootROM chip on the network card, and then the remote boot file is transmitted by the server. The Rpl directory stores the remote boot configuration file and some necessary system files. .

2. Back up the remote boot database. Each network card has a unique address number. The remote boot of NTS 4.0 only supports the first six network cards whose address numbers are 0020AF or 00608C. The network cards of other numbers must be added to the remote boot database through the Rplcmd command to achieve diskless boot. Once the database is destroyed, the client cannot be started. Therefore, it is very important to back up the remote boot database.

3. Back up Windows 9x source files. It is generally under the system partition, the size is about 90MB, and must have shared attributes. Common directories are named Win9xs, Win9xb or Sbsfile.

4. The working directory of the backup workstation. This directory is also called the machine directory, which contains all the registry files (System.dat, User.bat, etc.), startup configuration files, and Win.com, System.ini, Win.ini, and so on. The obvious feature is how many student machines in the teaching network, how many such directories (general names are xx01, xx02, xx03...). Because these working directories include key files such as system registry and startup configuration files, and are user-oriented, they are very easy to be destroyed and must be properly backed up.

In addition, the maintenance of the diskless teaching network should also pay special attention to:

1. Backup of critical files and directories can not be copied to the network server hard disk. The failure of the diskless network is generally caused by the destruction of the server hard disk, so the backup files in the hard disk are likely to be destroyed, especially when the virus is encountered, the consequences are unimaginable. Apply anti-virus software to check the virus before backup, confirm that it is non-toxic before you can start backup; when there is a failure, you should first check the virus, confirm the non-toxic and then restore the original files and directories.

3. Daily scans, hard disk, delete unnecessary files, try to avoid server failure.

The safe and stable operation of the teaching network is of great significance for the development of information technology education.
