How to install LibreOffice on Ubuntu

LibreOffice itself exists in Ubuntu system, but some people like to use LibreOffice official standard version, which requires manual installation of LibreOffice, and need to uninstall the original LibreOffice, the following small series teaches you how to install LibreOffice.

This version is a customized version of Ubuntu that works better in Ubuntu. It also integrates Ubuntu's application menus and other settings.

The official version of LibreOffice on the download page is different from the default version you get from Ubuntu. You are not getting a non-standard version, but it is slightly customized and added to the Ubunut repository.

If you want to use the official standard version of LibreOffice, you must manually download it from the download page. This means completely uninstalling the current version and downloading the .deb package from the official download page.

To do this you must first clear LibreOffice from Ubuntu.

Uninstalling LibreOffice from Ubuntu

To manually install the official version of LibreOffice in Ubuntu, you must first uninstall the current version. To uninstall LibreOffice in Ubuntu, run the following command.

sudo apt-get remove --purge libreoffice* && sudo apt-get autoremove

After running the above command, restart your computer. When you log in again, download the LibreOffice .deb package from the download page.

Install LibreOffice

After downloading the .deb package, open the terminal and go to the Downloads folder in your home directory. By default, files downloaded by Firefox are saved there.

cd ~ /Downloads

and then run the following command to extract .tar.gz file download file.

tar -xvf LibreOffice_*.tar.gz

After unzipping the .tar.gz file, you will see a new LibreOffice Deb folder in the Downloads folder. To start installing LibreOffice manually, run the following command.

sudo dpkg -i LibreOffice_*/DEBS/*.deb

After running the above command, LibreOffice will be installed and ready to use.

Next, enter Unity Dash and launch LibreOffice. The above is a guide to how to manually install LibreOffice in Ubuntu.

If you install LibreOffice Ubuntu manually in, chances are you have to manually update each time a version updates and security updates.

Or you just want Canonical (Ubuntu parent company) to install LibreOffice and patch/update management through its repository.

The above is the introduction of Ubuntu LibreOffice. If the system has its own LibreOffice and can meet your needs, then you don't need to install LibreOffice official standard version, because you need to update it regularly after installing LibreOffice. More troublesome.
