Scanning and Printing Implementation in Linux System

Scanning pictures is a relatively frequent task in daily office work. How to use scanners in Linux becomes a problem. Below I will explain in detail how to scan in Linux.

The popular RedHat Linux9 (hereafter referred to as RH9) has a small and practical Kooka scanner built in. At the same time, Kooka is also the default scanner for Red Flag Linux. It is easy to use and easy to use, and can meet daily scanning needs.

In RH9 select “ start menu → graphics & rarr; more graphics programs & rarr; scan and text recognition program & rdquo; or select in red flag Linux & ldquo; start & rar; program & rarr; graphics & rarr; The scanner program & rdquo; can run it. After Kooka runs, it will first detect the hardware. If it supports your scanner, it will pop up a confirmation window with detection information. Once confirmed, you can see Kooka's main interface.

Step1 Put the scanned image into the scanner and click the “Preview Scan” button to perform pre-scan. The scanning effect and detailed information of the image can be clearly seen in the preview window.

Step2 After previewing the image, the cursor will change to a cross shape. Then use the cursor to frame the part of the preview image to be scanned. After clicking the “Final Scan” button, you can scan.

After Step3 is scanned, Kooka will pop up a “Save Assistant”. In the Save Assistant, you can choose the most suitable graphic file format, such as commonly used JPG, BMP, etc. Once selected, you can save it.

After the above operation, the saved scanned image appears in Kooka.

Printing in Linux

After scanning, let's talk about printing problems in Linux. Currently Linux can support fast parallel port, USB interface printers, Red Flag Linux built a large number of printer drivers, support for common printers. The CUPS printing system used by the RH9 is better for the HP and EPSON series printers that are common in the office. In the Red Flag Linux, select "Printer Manager" in the "Control Panel", then select Add, add the printer in the Linux system and set the correct printer interface type with the help of the "Add Printer Wizard". For example, parallel port, serial port or USB, after selecting the printer brand and model, you can print the test page! The setting method of RH9 is similar to that of Red Flag Linux, except that there are several options for network printing.

It can be said that the scanning and printer configuration for office under Linux is no different from the Windows system.

After completing these preliminary preparations, we will introduce you to the office application examples under Linux in the next few issues, so that you can experience the same office fun under different systems.
