Desktop Linux opportunities come

Unlike previous Linux vendors who are keen to discuss server topics, the topic of Linux desktops has become a hot topic of discussion at this conference. The SUSE Linux Enterprise 10 desktop platform software released by Novell on LinuxWorld has earned the attention of the participants. "This time next year, I hope to tell you that Novell is not only No.1 on the Linux server side of China, but also No.1 on the desktop side!" Dr. Zhang Xianmin, general manager of Novell Asia, made a high-profile statement at the meeting.

Novell's exposure to "ambition" is actually the vision of many Linux vendors who have tasted the scale of China's Linux market. Foreign Linux vendors such as Red Hat and Novell began to set up branches in China last year to attack the Chinese market. Chinese local Linux vendors also set their sights and expanded. The Chinese Linux market has been boosted by domestic and foreign manufacturers.

According to CCID Consulting's survey, in 2005, the total sales of the domestic Linux software market reached 128 million yuan, an increase of 32.9% over the same period last year. It is much higher than the average growth rate of the operating system market and higher than the growth rate of other operating system products. The market share of Linux in the operating system product structure has increased from 2.2% in 2004 to 2.6%.

Genuine Linux Opportunity Comes

In April 2006, the Ministry of Information Industry and other ministries jointly issued a notice that PC products without pre-installed genuine operating systems will not be available for sale in the future. Since then, Microsoft has signed huge operating system purchase agreements with Lenovo, Founder, Tsinghua Tongfang and TCL in the United States.

After a few months of silence, the domestic Linux manufacturer won the bidding software and 50 sets of computer operating system pre-installed orders with Great Wall Computer, and then signed a large order with Inspur. Zhao Xiaoliang, president of Zhongke Hongqi, said that Zhongke Hongqi has signed a pre-installation agreement with the two global PC manufacturers for the Linux desktop operating system, and more cooperation with domestic manufacturers is also in progress.

Qin Yong, executive vice president of the winning software, said that the cooperation with the Great Wall is very important. Although the pre-installation of domestic software has begun in the past few years, there are very few pre-installed or put into use. The cooperation between the winning bidding software and the Great Wall is chargeable and requires the other party to use it. “In fact, the Great Wall feels that our products are very well matched with the Great Wall PC, so this time with the Great Wall pre-installation can really be implemented. & rdquo; Qin Yong said.

Qian Di, senior analyst at CCID Consulting, believes that these orders are closely related to the government's policy of requiring PCs to pre-install genuine operating systems. In the long run, genuineization provides more market opportunities for both Microsoft and Linux desktop operating systems. Because the government requires the PC to pre-install a genuine operating system, it has weakened a strong competitor — — pirated Windows system.
