This model for troubleshooting IBM blade server failure is limited to all Blade787 models of BladeCenter; all 8678 models of BladeCenter HS20; all 8832 models of BladeCenter HS20; all 8839 models of BladeCenter HS40 ; BladeCenter JS20 all 8842 models; BladeCenter T all 8720 models; BladeCenter T all 8730 models.

IBM blade server downtime

Unconfigured two SCSI hard disks with a speed of 15K and cannot be powered on.

The management module may display the following information in the event log:

-BladeCenter , System Power Good Fault-BEM Option Failure

The following sound codes may also appear on the system :

This error only occurs during the initialization of the LSI controller, and two SCSI hard drives with a speed of 15,000 rpm are installed in the blade server SCSI storage expansion option.

Affected Configuration:

One of the following IBM e(logo) servers:

a BladeCenter, Type 8677, any Model.a BladeCenter HS40, Type 8839, Any Model.a BladeCenter HS20, Type 8678, any Model.a BladeCenter HS20, Type 8832, any Model.a BladeCenter JS20, Type 8842, any Model.a BladeCenter T, Type 8730, any Model.a BladeCenter T, Type 8720, Any Model.

The system is configured with the following options:

IBM 73.4GB 15K rpm Ultra320 SCSI Hot-Swap HDD, p/n: 32P0735, FRU: 32P0736IBM 36.4 GB 15K rpm Ultra320 SCSI Hot -Swap HDD, p/n: 32P0734, FRU: 32p0737IBM eServer BladeCenter SCSI Storage Expansion Unit, p/n: 26K4847, FRU: 26K4841

IBM Blade Server Downtime Solution

Unplug Blade server for 10 seconds;

Unplug two SCSI hard disks;

Reinsert the blade server and power up;

Press ld controller during LSI controller initialization C”Enter LSI Logic Configuration Utility;

Select the current controller (the blade server has only one controller);

Select & in the controller properties Quot;Drive Spin-up Delay" and change the setting to 9 seconds;

Save and exit.

Turn off the blade server and reinsert the two SCSI hard disks. Now the system can boot normally.
