What is a dns server?

A DNS server is a domain name system or domain name service (Domain Name System or Domain Name Service). The domain name system assigns a domain name address and an IP address to hosts on the Internet. When the user uses the domain name address, the system automatically converts the domain name address to an IP address. The domain name service is an Internet tool that runs the domain name system. The server that performs the domain name service is called a DNS server, and responds to the query of the domain name service through the DNS server.

What are the functions of the DNS server?

The role of the DNS server in the Internet is to convert the domain name into an ip address that the network can recognize. First of all, we must know that the Internet website is in the form of a server, but how do we get to the website server we want to visit? This requires assigning an IP address to each server. There are not many websites on the Internet. We can't remember the IP address of each website. This creates a DNS for the domain name management system that can be easily remembered. The domain name is converted to the IP address of the server to be accessed.

Simply put, in order to facilitate us to browse the websites on the Internet without having to deliberately remember the IP address of each host, the DNS server came into being Provides a service that resolves domain names to IP so that we can access static IP hosts on the Internet with short and memorable domain names when surfing the Internet.

DNS Configuration Method

The DNS Server is a built-in DNS server configuration tool for Windows NT Server. We will select “Start”/“Program”/“Administrative Tools (Common)”/“DNS Manager>, and the “Domain Name Service Manager” main window will appear. The first thing to do here is to add a DNS server for configuration.

Open the “DNS & rdquo; menu, select “New Server”, enter the host name or IP address of the DNS server in the dialog box: 199.168.1.1, and then click the “OK” button. When the operation is complete, the server you just added will appear in the server list. For future data files to be saved to the server, right-click on the server hostname or IP address in the server list, and then click “Update Server Data File”
