Site FTP Parameter Settings

Site FTP Parameter Settings: FTP is connected to the server and some settings are required to control the file transfer function of the site window. Select Edit>Preferences to bring up the parameter setting interface.

Select Site FTP in the Category column to set the FTP parameters for the following sites: Always Show
Specify which site (local or remote) is always displayed in the site window. The local and remote files are displayed in which pane (left or right) of the site window. By default, the local site is always displayed in the right pane. The pane that is not selected (the default is the left pane) is a mutable pane; it can display both a site map and a file from another site (the default is a remote site). Dependent Files
When the browser loads the HTML file, it prompts whether to load related files (such as images, external style sheets, and other files referenced by the HTML file). By default, Prompt on Get/Check Out (prompted on download/logout) and Prompt on Put/Check In (listed during upload/registration) are selected. Note: To force the “Include Dependent Files” message to appear when these options are not selected, hold down the Alt key to select the Get, Put, Check In, or Check Out commands. FTP Connection
determines if the specified time (minutes) has broken the link to the remote site without any action. FTP Time
Specifies the time (in seconds) that Dreamweaver attempts to establish a link with a remote server. If there is no response within the specified time, Dreamweaver displays a warning dialog to inform the fact. Firewall
specifies the address to connect to the proxy server from behind the firewall. This option is left blank if it is not behind a firewall. Note: If it is behind a firewall, in the Site Definition dialog box, the Use Firewall option. Firewall Port
Specify the port to which the FTP server is connected. If you are connecting through a different port than port 21 (the default FTP port), enter the port number here. Put Options
Specifies that unsaved files are saved without prompting before uploading files to the remote site. Define Sites
The Define Sites dialog pops up, where you can edit an existing site or create a new one.

By modifying the FTP extension mapping file FTPExtensionMap.txt, you can customize the file type to be transferred in ASCII (text) or binary format. To do this, open the TPExtensionMap.txt file located in the Macromedia/Dreamweaver/Configuration folder with Notepad, modify or delete the list of file types included in each transport format, or add your own file type. The following is an example of part of the file:

AIF BINARY
AIFF BINARY
AIFC BINARY
ASP ASCII
BIN BINARY
BMP BINARY
CFM ASCII
CFML ASCII
CGI ASCII
CSS ASCII
DCR BINARY
DIR BINARY
DOC BINARY
DXR BINARY
EXE BINARY
GIF BINARY
HTM ASCII
HTML ASCII
JPG BINARY
JPEG BINARY
JS BINARY
LBI BINARY

In this file, the first column specifies the file extension, and the second column specifies the text. (ASCII) or binary (BINARY) format transfer. It should be noted that if the extension of the file to be transferred is not defined in this file, Dreamweaver automatically transfers such files in binary format. When the file is transferred in text format, the set linefeed parameter settings are ignored.
