First, the basic situation of Serv-U

Software name: Serv-U 4.0.0.4 (shareware, 30-day use restrictions)

Second, installation and uninstallation of Serv-U

1. Installation of Serv-U

Double click to download the obtained susetup1 The .exe file will start the installation. In addition to the need to tick I have read and accept the above license agreement in the next step of the usage agreement, and then press the Next button, the other default options are used.

When the installation is complete, the system will automatically enter the Serv-U Administrator (hereinafter referred to as "Manager") window, and the Setup Wizard will appear. At this point, you can start building your own according to this wizard. The first FTP server is out.

2. Uninstalling Serv-U

Select “Remove Serv-U” under “Start → Program → Serv-U FTP Server”, and then follow the prompts as needed.

Third, the establishment of the first FTP server

For the sake of convenience, the author assumes that your local IP address is 192.168.0.1, the local computer name is WY, you want to An FTP server that allows only anonymous access (Anonymous) is created in the local area network. The anonymous user logs in and will enter the D:\\wy directory.

In the installation wizard, it is generally recommended that in addition to the following areas that need to be modified, for beginners, other parts will be selected with their default options (press the Next button directly).

1. When proceeding to the step with the Anonymous home directory prompt, click on the box icon on the right side to select the target directory D:\\wy and press Next. The button continues.

2. When proceeding to the step with the Create named account prompt, select the No and press the Next button to continue.

When the configuration is complete, you can see that there is a Wizard Generated Domain item under the Domains of the left frame of the manager. The Users under it contain an account named Anonymous. The virtual root directory (home directory) after this account is logged in is the D:\\wy directory.

The FTP server address is 192.168.0.1 (or the computer name WY of this server is also available), the default port number is 21, and only the anonymous account Anonymous is allowed to log in.

Serv-U Installation Wizard Main Contents

1. IP address, leave blank for dynamic or unknown IP (IP address, if it is dynamic IP or don't know IP, it will remain empty): This item needs to fill in the IP address you want to bind to this FTP server. Unless your computer has multiple fixed IP addresses and you only want one of them to be used by the FTP server, you need to enter the corresponding IP address here; otherwise it is generally recommended, regardless of whether you have a fixed IP address or not. Please leave this item blank.

2. Domain name: Enter the domain name of your FTP server here. But the domain name is resolved by DNS rather than by this, so you can actually fill in any content, such as the text "My first FTP server" to explain this FTP.

3. Install as system service: This item is valid for servers with Windows NT/2000/XP operating system. If Yes is selected, the Serv-U FTP service will be added to the system service (can be viewed in the "Services" under "Administrative Tools"); if No (No) is selected, it will not be used as System services exist. If your FTP server is running year-round, it is recommended to select Yes; if it is only needed, it is recommended to select No.

4. Allow anonymous access: If you want this FTP server to accept anonymous login, you must select Yes here; otherwise, select No.

5. Anonymous home directory: Here you can set the real location of the virtual root directory on the FTP server after the anonymous user logs in.

6. Lock anonymous users in to their home directory: If you select Yes, anonymous users can only access their home directory and the following directory tree; If you select No, it can also access the peer or higher directory tree of its home directory. From a security perspective, it is generally recommended to choose Yes.

7. Create named account: Here, ask if you want to establish a normal user (relative to anonymous users) account.

IV. Common Basic Operations

After setting up your first FTP server according to the installation wizard, you can only implement the default functions and permissions granted by Serv-U. If you can control it as you wish, you will need to go through the following steps.

1. Client connection

In Internet Explorer (Internet Explorer), the client access format is ftp://192.168.0.1, no need to enter username and password; in DOS ( Or the command prompt), the client access format is ftp -A 192.168.0.1, and you do not need to enter the user name and password; in the professional FTP client software settings, take the CuteFTP Version 4.2 Chinese version as an example, in the "site In the "FTP Host Address" of the Manager, enter 192.168.0.1, and then select the "Anonymous Connection" item under "Login Type". You also do not need to enter a username and password.

Description

1. In the above client connection, the IP address 192.168.0.1 can also be replaced by the computer name WY.

2. Except for "A" in ftp-A 192.168.0.1 must be capitalized, other places are not case sensitive.

3. If you use ftp 192.168.0.1 format to log in under DOS, you need to enter the anonymous login user name Anonymous, the password is empty (direct carriage return) or any other value.

2. Management of FTP users

To add a new user (including adding Anonymous users), select Users in the left frame of the manager, and then right click. Enter New User, and then set the User Name, Password, Home Directory, etc. according to the prompts.

To delete a user, right click on the user and select Delete User.

To copy a user, right click on this user and select Copy User. Then a new user with the name of Copy of xxx will be added, except for the user name and the original user. In addition, the other parts (including passwords, home directories, directory permissions, etc.) are exactly the same.

To temporarily disable a user's login privileges, simply select the user in the left frame, then enter the Account window in the right frame and tick Disable account.

3. Management of directory permissions

Select the user name in the left frame of the manager, then enter the Dir Access window in the right frame, and then select the corresponding in the list. After the directory, you can change the current user's access to it on the right side of the window.

Description

1. Read: The right to read (copy, download, without viewing) the file.

2. Write: The right to write (upload) a file.

3. Append: The right to write and attach files to a file.

4. Delete: The right to delete (upload, rename, delete, move) files.

5. Execute: The right to run the executable directly.

6. List: The right to view files and directories.

7. Create: The power to create a directory.

8. Remove: The right to move, delete, and rename a directory.

9. Inherit: If checked, the properties set above will work for the current Path and the entire directory tree under it; otherwise, only its current Path (directory) )effective.

4.Add virtual directory

For example, the home directory of anonymous user (Anonymous) is D:\\wy, you can access it through ftp://192.168.0.1/test format. For content in E:\\all\ odisk, you need to add a virtual directory to it. The steps are as follows:

(1) In the left frame of the manager, select Settings under Domains, and then go to the General window in the right frame.

(2) Click the Add button under Virtual path mappings, then select E:\\all\ odisk under Physical path according to the prompt, in Map Physical path Select D:\\wy under to (map physical path to) and enter test in the mapped path name to add the mapping record for this virtual directory.

(3) Finally select the Anonymous user in the left frame of the manager, then in the right frame to the Dir Access window, press the Add button to the directory E:\\all\ odisk Add to the list.
