MyEclipse Database Tutorial: Designing an ER Diagram

  
ER-Designer provides a number of tools and features to help you create, reorganize, and customize ER diagrams, as well as export ER diagrams in JPEG format. Create entity relationship (ER) diagram from the database In this section we show you how to create ERD from the existing database, the example given uses the human resources of Oracle 9i ( HR) Sample database. The metadata retrieval process can be very time consuming considering the size of the database, the number of tables selected, and the performance of connecting to the database server. Therefore, you can run this process in the background by clicking the Run in Background button in the progress window. The process window simultaneously accesses the metadata of the database. Once the process is complete, a new HR.mer file has been created. Note: The unselected REGIONS table above will be left and deselected, which does not exist in any of the diagrams or outline views. The workbench displays the HR.mer file. 2. Update the table data in the figure. The ER chart can be refreshed according to the current state of the database. The refresh process is designed to retrieve the metadata of the database and check it with the state of the ER graph. If necessary, you can select a table, group, or entire ER map to refresh. Select one or more table refreshes, right-click, and select Refresh Table from the menu. The metadata of the selected table and the updated graph are retrieved interactively with the ER-Designer of the database resource manager. To refresh a table To refresh a complete graph, select View>Refresh Diagram. In the window for refreshing the ER diagram, you are allowed to add and remove tables from the chart. The table in your diagram cannot be removed from the selected list of tables; conversely, if a table is not currently in your diagram, you can add it from the selected list. The metadata of the selected table and the updated graph are retrieved interactively with the ER-Designer of the database resource manager. Refresh ER diagram
