Today we will look at two application examples.

2. Repairing damaged MPEG files with WinHEX

Sometimes we will encounter this situation: MPEG files downloaded from the Internet will be "unrecognized" when opened with some MPEG playback tools. The format is "or the format is incorrect" and cannot be played. What's interesting is that the same file can be played with other playback software, but the first few seconds of the screen always have a flash, which shows that the MPEG header data is corrupted. If you can repair the damaged MPEG file header, you can use any MPEG playback software to play it. We can use WinHex to achieve this.

Specific method: first find a complete lossless MPEG file, open it with WinHex, hold down the left mouse button in the WinHex window and drag from the offset 00000000 to the offset slightly larger than the damaged MPEG file. The end of the exception part of the header, then press Ctrl+Shift+C to copy this piece of data into memory.

Next, use WinHex to open the damaged MPEG file. Also use the mouse to start from the offset of 00000000 and select the same offset as the end offset you have just selected (if the selected offset range is 00000000) -000018E0, then the range to be replaced should be from 00000000 -000018E0). Press Ctrl+V to paste the code you just copied, and replace the selected part of the damaged MPEG file with the normal MPEG header data.

Save and exit WinHex, give it a try, use MPEG playback software to play the original damaged MPEG file, no more "unrecognizable format" or "incorrect format" prompt, and you're done!
