Firefox Firefox browser tutorial

Firefox as a tool for the open source community to challenge IE, it uses less resources, faster browsing, higher security, refreshing interface, highly praised by users. The latest Chinese version of Firefox 1.5 has been released. This is another surprise for users who love Firefox. Today we will also give a detailed introduction to its use and related skills.

First contact with Firefox

First download Firefox, and all major download sites provide Firefox downloads. You can also download the Simplified Chinese version at http://www.mozine.org/. The latest version is 1.5RC2. This article uses this version as an example.

When running for the first time, Firefox will prompt you to import the data of the existing browser, including IE settings, favorites, history, passwords. Of course, we choose "Microsoft Internet Explorer". Save a lot of work, you need to point out that the next step is to set Firefox's start page as the home page or continue to use the home page set in IE, you can see the main interface shown in Figure 1. Of course, if you have not imported it here, you can import the relevant data of IE by entering the File → Import command after entering Firefox.

It seems that the elements on the Firefox 1.5RC2 interface are very different from IE. Here, the menu bar is provided for file, edit, view, go, bookmark, help, etc. The toolbar is also available, but the default provided buttons are very few, only a limited number of buttons such as back, forward, refresh, stop, home page, etc. Of course, right click on the blank space of the toolbar, you can open the "custom" dialog box to set (Figure 2), the options here are quite rich. According to the author's experience, it is recommended to drag the buttons, Mail, bookmarks, new tabs, new window, copy, paste, etc. directly to the toolbar. It's much more convenient, of course, the price is that the size of the address bar will be relatively small.

The use of Firefox is not much different from IE. Enter the URL address in the address bar and press Enter to go to the corresponding page, or directly from Under the Bookmarks menu, select the favorite web address, but unfortunately clicking the link in the page does not open the tab by default. Instead, it opens a new window, and the user must use other tricks to change this.

6 skills to play Firefox

The power of habit is hard to change. Firefox provides a lot of features that IE can't provide temporarily. Maybe you will see it after you use it. indefinite. Let's take a look at the following tips:

1. Flash pictures no longer open skylights

Take a look at the page shown in Figure 3. What is this? This is Because Firefox doesn't have built-in support for Flash, it won't display these Flash animations when browsing the corresponding webpages. It can only open one skylight, which looks very uncomfortable. The solution is to click the "Click here to download the plugin" button, after confirming Firefox will automatically link to the official site to download Macromedia Flash Player, follow the prompts, and then you can let these sunroofs away from your sight, friends may wish to Figure 4 is compared with Figure 3.

2. New link uses tab browsing method

Firefox provides support for multi-page browsing, but when you click the corresponding link in the page by default, it still opens a new window, which seems to be no different from IE. In fact, the correct way to do this is to right-click on the link and select the "Open in new tab" command so that we can use multiple tabs in the same window to simultaneously navigate multiple pages, and we can close one individually. Close all pages in a page or unified, which is convenient for browsing and saves system resources.

However, it is very troublesome to execute commands from the right-click menu every time. We can open the “Tools→Options” window and switch to the “Tag-Browsing” page. First select “Open the link to the new window”. When you select the ": checkbox, the default option is "The same tab/window as the link", this option will automatically replace the original page, please reset to "New Tab" and then click the link each time A new tab is automatically opened instead of repeatedly opening a new window, and the dragging of the mouse directly changes the order of the individual labels.

3.Reset the download folder

When downloading, the default settings will save the file to the desktop, which obviously does not meet our requirements. It is estimated that most of the friends may prefer to save it temporarily. To a certain location on the disk, please still open the "Tools→Options" window, switch to the "Download" page, click the "Browse" button on the right to reset the default path to save the downloaded file, and will not be downloaded again later. The file is saved to the desktop and saved to the path you specified.

4. Let Google search engine really use

I wonder if Firefox plagiarizes IE7.0, or IE7.0 plagiarizes Firefox, anyway, both provide a search box behind the address bar. , directly type the corresponding keyword, press Enter to call the default search engine to search, eliminating the trouble of the user. However, the strange thing is that although Firefox integrates multiple search engines including Google, Yahoo, Amazon.com, Answers.com, Creative Commons, eBay, etc., when I try to call the default Google search engine to search, I will see after the carriage return. It’s still Google’s blank Chinese homepage, which means you have to type the same keywords again to search, and calling other search engines doesn’t.

In fact, it is not difficult to solve this problem, type "about:config" in the address bar, then you will see the window shown in Figure 5, find the following two lines, double-click to set it empty value, then it will not happen again this embarrassing thing:

Figure 5 about: config

browser.search.param.Google.1 .custom
browser.search.param.Google.1.default

Description: in the address bar, enter "about: config", you You'll find that you can manually define all of Firefox's setup options here, but it's recommended to define them in the Tools→Options window if you don't have to, or visit http://www.Firefox.net before making changes. The cn/wiki/pmwiki.php?pagename=Firefox.AboutConfig page for related Chinese instructions.

5. View source code

Although IE also provides the function of viewing the source code of the page, but can only display the complete source code on the page, and most of the time we may just need to see one Look at the source code for some parts.

Firefox allows the user to select a specific part, as long as the part to be viewed is selected in advance, and then select the "View selected part of the source code" command from the right-click menu (Figure 6), the advantage of this is You can directly locate, no longer need to make big eyes, drag the mouse to find, at least protect your eyes and extend the life of the mouse, and is very useful for friends who are ready to learn web page production.

Figure 6 Viewing the source code of the web page

Tip: If you select the "View page source code" command, the open window still displays the complete source code, which is no different from the functions in IE. .

6. Open multiple homepages at the same time

Only one homepage can be set in IE, and Firefox actually supports setting multiple homepages at the same time, open "Tools→Options" and switch to "General" Page, although only one home page address can be displayed here, but as long as we use "| "Different input of different homepage addresses is fine. In fact, this method is equivalent to creating a startup bookmark group. Every time you start the Firefox program, all the tags in the startup bookmark group will be automatically opened, so you don't have to manually enter the URL address. Or you can navigate from the "Bookmarks" menu.
