Windows 7 and SSD - FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)

After introducing improvements related to Windows 7 and SSD, Microsoft issued a FAQ for Windows 7 and SSD (Frequently Asked Questions).

Q: Does Windows 7 support Trim?
A: Supported

Q: When running on SSD, will Windows 7 defragmentation be turned off by default?
A: Will

Q: When running on SSD, will Windows 7 Superfetch be turned off by default?
A: Will

Q: Is it recommended to use NTFS file compression on SSD hard drives?
A: File compression can save the precious disk space of SSD, but reading the compressed file will increase the CPU and power burden. Therefore, we do not recommend enabling disk compression on SSDs unless they are on a partition that is not commonly used.

Q: Is there any difference in the index system of Windows search on SSD?
A: No

Q: Is the Bitlocker encryption function of Windows 7 optimized on SSD?
A: Yes. We recommend users to use this feature to protect data and privacy, whether on HDD or SSD.

Q: Is the configuration of the media center optimized on the SSD?
A: Compared with HDD, SSD has an advantage. If you want to say optimization, it should also be optimized for HDD

Q: Does SSD support RAID disk arrays?
A: Supported.

Q: Should I use a page file (virtual memory) on the SSD?
A: Of course. The main job of virtual memory processing is random read, and this is exactly what SSD is doing.

Q: What effect does SSD have on Windows 7 system scoring?
A: Of course. Due to the excellent performance of the SSD, sometimes the score on the hard disk can even reach 7.9.
