Windows 7

in the eyes of an XP user

I originally wanted to name this article "Windows 7 trial report", but I don't think I have much qualification to name it because I use XP most of the time. , vista has not been used in depth. Just knowing that vista's UAC is annoying. According to statistics, people who browse may use XP, which accounts for the majority, so if you plan to upgrade directly from XP to win7 in the future, you can check my experience.

(Note: By default, the taskbar is at the bottom, there is no bottom dock simulation)

I. Installation and first feeling

Yesterday spent 3 I downloaded the 32-bit windows 7 image in the hour, and tried to squeeze out the 30G space in the hard disk (in fact, it doesn't need so much).

My computer configuration is AMD 3600+, 2G, 250G SATA, 7600GT 256M. The installation process took about 40 minutes. Windows 7 comes with all the hardware drivers of my computer, so it can be used after installation.

This is the rating of Windows 7 for my hardware:

According to my personal experience, the boot speed is comparable to XP, and the boot screen is very cool.

After the initial installation, Windows 7 is in English. You may need to download the Chinese package. After installation, the C drive was used for about 10G space, not too much, half less than the 20G that was circulated on the Internet.

In terms of initial feelings, windows 7 and vista are the same, the UI is very cool, and there is no obvious delay in the effect of my classic machine.

Second, the basic configuration

Basic configuration means the software or settings that come with the Windows 7 system.

1, IE8

Windows 7 comes with the browser is IE8, if you are still using IE6, encounter IE8 may feel uncomfortable. IE8 has a lot to offer, and borrows many excellent features from other browsers, such as smart address bar, stealth mode and so on. I don't go into the details here. There are many introductions about IE8 on the Internet.

After installing IE8 twice, I installed Firefox 3 enhanced version. Compared to IE, I still prefer Firefox.

2, Windows Media Player 12

There is nothing to say, windows will definitely bring its own media player. At the same time, the Windows media center is also included in the program.

3, comes with a screenshot tool

I like this tool. Although relatively simple, it can meet the general needs.

4, firewall rules

windows 7 comes with a more powerful firewall, the rules of customization are relatively very powerful.

I am not sure if there is such a setting in vista, at least I did not find such an intuitive firewall rule setting in XP. Because the firewall is not like anti-virus software, it does not need to be updated frequently, so I think the firewall that comes with Windows is enough.

5, comes with backup program

windows 7 comes with a backup program, you can back up a partition to other partitions.

6. More powerful drawing tools

Like point 4, I am not sure if the drawing tools in vista are more powerful, but it is certain that the drawing tools in win7 are better.

At least, under xp, the drawing tool can only be undone, and can be revoked multiple times under win7.

7, partition encryption

windows 7 can encrypt a partition to protect your private data.

8, support wallpaper automatically change

In win7, you can automatically uninstall the wallpaper software, because the system comes with this feature.

9, more powerful calculator

windows7 calculator becomes very powerful, in addition to providing basic mode and scientific computing mode, plus a programmer mode. In addition, statistical calculations and date calculations are also possible.

Third, software compatibility

Most of the software running in XP can run under windows7, a few software compatibility issues. Of course, this is a beta version of the operating system, you can't ask too much.

Firefox, Gtalk, QQ, Notepad++, 7z, Sogou input method, QQ video, clipx, etc. are not much problem under win7.

But the daemon tools can't be installed, so in the end I used winmount to virtualize the ISO image.

I guess some online games should not run, because I almost never play online games, so I can't test them. I know friends who would like to share them.

In terms of green software, most of the software can still be run. The stand-alone games I installed under XP can be run without installing in win7.

According to a post in a BBS, running 360 security guards may lead to crashes, please use with caution! If the computer is used better, you can consider not installing any protection software. Streaking is not terrible.

There may be more compatibility issues in 64-bit systems. It is recommended to use a 32-bit system.

For the sake of safety, it is recommended that you do not use the system optimization tool after installing win7.

Fourth, more humane places

1, "Show desktop" button is arranged at the far right of the taskbar

All along, in addition to using winkey+D to achieve display desktop In addition, you can only click on the “display desktop” icon. Under XP, this icon is scheduled by default in the Quick Launch bar, which brings up an increase in operating time.

And win7 will arrange this button at the far right of the taskbar, so that blind operation can be achieved.

I think it would be more efficient to integrate the recycle bin on the right side of the taskbar like ubuntu.

2, the taskbar does not display the window title

For me personally, I prefer this way of displaying the window. Because in most cases we look at the icon to know what the program is, without having to look at the text title, more text titles will only make the taskbar appear more crowded.

Of course, there are also bad things like this. If you open multiple browser windows, when you want to quickly locate a window, because there is no title prompt, this will Reduce operating efficiency.

3, the taskbar shows progress

I like this very much, when a progress bar appears in a window, its taskbar icon will also show progress tips:

4, better hidden taskbar icon

hidden task icon is integrated into a small frame:

does not fit like xp "pull".

5, user control settings provide level options

This is a place I hate vista, everything to ask. Microsoft apparently realized that this was an annoying step, so it offered the option to choose not to prompt for any notifications:

6. Maximize the window automatically, automatically restore

When the title bar of the window is moved to the top of the desktop, the window is automatically maximized. Otherwise, the window will be restored automatically.

This is more convenient than double clicking on the title bar.

7, automatically display the window side by side

When dragging the window to the left and right ends of the desktop, the window will automatically become a vertical window, respectively drag the two windows to the left and right sides, there will be the following Effect:

Otherwise, the window will be restored automatically.

8. Independent Volume Control

It seems that vista can already control the volume of a separate program, which is obviously more powerful than the volume control that comes with XP. The volume of each program is no longer unified.

9, strong resource manager search bar

win7 resource manager search bar to achieve the same function as the "UltraExplorer file name filtering" introduced in the windows efficiency software, that is, when When you enter the beginning of a file name, all files beginning with that letter will be filtered out. Subsequent letters and so on.

10, text preview

In XP, the resource manager provides a simple preview of the images and videos. In Windows 7, the text is also added to the ranks of the quick preview:

V. Summary

This article is not a review of win7, because no specific values are involved. Secondly, since I have not used Vista in depth, I am not qualified to judge that Windows 7 is better than Vista, even though Vista is generally not popular.

After experiencing the failure of vista, Microsoft apparently found a better direction. Windows 7 draws on the excellence of XP and other operating systems, and removes some of the tedious steps of vista.

From the perspective of a long-time user of XP, I think this is a system worth trying. In some details, Windows 7 is very user-friendly. When I operate on a friend's vista, I feel more uncomfortable than Windows 7, so I think XP users can make a good transition to Windows 7.

If your computer can free up about 20G of space, 1G or more of memory, CPU is not too old, you can consider trying Windows 7. The current beta is the flagship version and can be used free of charge until August.

This article was completed under windows 7 beta.
