The audit is not strict: Vista users spend 80 yuan to upgrade 2460 Win7 Ultimate

In the Win7 pirated CD hot sale, Microsoft's genuine Win7 is also "sell big bags." A few days ago, many users found that the Win7 upgrade CD can be applied for free through the PC vendor's Win7 upgrade program. Users can even get a set of Win7 Ultimate with a value of 2,460 yuan.

What is going on here?

The reason for this is that Microsoft promised before the release of Win7 that after the release of Win7, it will be purchased with the PC manufacturer for the brand Vista computer from June 26 to 31 next year, and the users who meet the upgrade requirements are free. To upgrade to Win7, users only need to submit an application on the PC manufacturer's website to get the corresponding Win7 upgrade CD. However, the reporter learned that at least two PC manufacturers have a loophole in the Win7 upgrade application process. The PC manufacturer did not strictly verify whether the computer purchased by the applicant meets the upgrade qualification and sent the Win7 upgrade CD to the applicant. Users who qualify for the free upgrade to Win7 can also get a Win7 Ultimate version of up to $2,460 at a very low cost (paying more than 80 yuan for shipping).

The reporter tested the Win7 upgrade application service of the above two PC manufacturers. One of the manufacturers asked the reporter to provide the purchase invoice and other information within 7 days after receiving the application from the reporter. However, after two days after the reporter had not provided the invoice information, the PC manufacturer had already charged the reporter with an upgrade CD shipping fee of 86.5 yuan. A few days later, the CD was delivered to the reporter, and it was the Win7 Ultimate version worth 2,460 yuan. The Win7 upgrade application of another PC manufacturer is similar, and even the CD-ROM shipping fee is not charged, that is, the user can obtain the genuine Win7 for free as long as the application is submitted; at the time of writing, the reporter queries the PC manufacturer for the transportation of the Win7 upgrade CD. The package was found to have been shipped and sent to Hong Kong and will be delivered to reporters in a few days.

In response to the above-mentioned PC vendor's Win7 upgrade audit vulnerability, the reporter consulted Microsoft China PR official, the person responded that Microsoft has already understood the matter, and said that the above vulnerabilities have been fixed and there will be no similar incidents. The relevant PC manufacturers involved in the interview also said that the current online application for upgrading Win7 must strictly verify the applicant information. However, Microsoft and related PC vendors expressed their silence about why such a vulnerability occurred.
