Adding Backup for Win 7 Prevents boot failure

When Windows 7 fails to boot, Microsoft's official recommended fix is to boot the system using the Windows 7 installation CD. However, if there is a boot failure in Windows 7, what should we do if we don't have a CD installed? We can add a backup boot for Windows 7 in case it is needed. Learn

conventional Windows7 Windows7 start at startup, NT60 boot record is first activated, and then load the primary partition (usually C drive) in the "bootmgr", then read "c: ?oot?cd" and lists the boot menu to load the necessary startup files for Windows 7. Therefore, Windows 7 cannot be started once the "bootmgr" and "bcd" files are in error. Windows 7 comes with a "repair computer" and self-installed maintenance system (such as WinPE, etc.) are also started with the "bcd" file, so Windows7 startup failure, the conventional maintenance method will be invalid.

let the Windows7 backup starts, the need to change the way the hard disk boot GRUB boot (multilayer start), and then placed in another partition "bootmgr" and "bcd" file, and finally use the "grldr" respectively start a different partition "bootmgr". With these secure Windows 7 boot backups, when "c:?ootmgr" fails to start, we can also activate "bootmgr" of other partitions to start Windows7 (Windows 7 startup backup emergency steps are shown in Figure 1).

simple configuration: backup generation backup start

start just copy "bootmgr" and "boot" directory to another partition. Run the Registry Editor first, then find "HKEY_LOCAL_MacHINEBCD00000000", click "File → Unload Configuration Unit" in the menu bar, and click "Yes" in the pop-up window.

then "c:? Ootmgr" file and "c:? Oot" directory to the D drive (to copy the "Show All Files" and "Display system protected file" post). Since "bootmgr" will load the "boot?cd" configuration file in the same directory after booting, you can use "bcdtool" to configure the "d:?ootbcd" startup information. Click "Start Configuration → Open" in "bcdtool", open "d:?oot?cd", then select "Windows Startup Manager" in the left window, and change "device" to "partition=D:" (figure 2).

Tip: To facilitate the maintenance and to reinstall the system, may also be added in the E WinPE boot disk (or other non-system partition). Use the virtual drive to load the Windows 7 installation files, then copy all the files to the E drive and configure them to launch in "menu.lst".

combat: the start menu using the backup

completion of the operation, as long as the hard disk boot record becomes "GRUB", then a configuration can be used. First download the files for booting (grldr and menu.lst, place them in the root directory of the C drive. Then run bootice.exe as an administrator, click on "Master Boot Record" and select "GRUBforDOS0.4.4" in the pop-up window. Finally, click "install /configuration" (Figure 3), the pop-up window, select "write to disk"

Tip: Changing the master boot record is more dangerous, it is recommended to change before the first "backup MBR "the current boot record backup to the flash memory device stores.

now reboot the system, the computer starts, the system will be referred to the GRUB boot (system selection menu will appear), is still the default startup Windows7, and the original There is no difference. If the default startup fails, just select "Windows7backup" in the GRUB boot menu, you can load "d:?ootmgr" to continue to boot Windows 7. If this backup menu still does not start, you can also use the GRUB boot menu. Select "WinPE" (provided that all Windows 7 installation files have been released to the E drive), activate "e:?ootmgr" to load the Windows 7 installation operation, enter WinPE system Windows7 start reloading or repair (FIG. 4).
