Windows 8 new LOGO show: tilt pure blue window

Windows 8 new logo has been announced today. This Windows 8 Logo is different from previous designs. From the new logo released by Microsoft, the design uses only one color, which is very biased towards the new Metro user interface. In terms of appearance, the logo is very similar to the inverted Finnish flag. The blue background has white lines in the middle and looks like a window. Sam Moreau, chief user of Microsoft's user experience, said in a blog post that design can give people a sense of movement, which is similar to the fast, streamlined style of Windows 8.

Microsoft hired renowned design consultancy Pentagram to provide new icon ideas. According to Morrow, Pentagram wants to get rid of the past Windows Logo design, more biased towards the banner, not the window.

Morrow said: "The window is indeed the perfect metaphor for computing. On the new logo, we want to show the window idea correctly. ”

However, the irony is that in the Metro interface it will abandon the hidden meaning of the window, and since the birth of Windows, this meaning is the core of the operating system. The Metro style is more friendly to touch, it uses a function grid access program instead of an icon.

When Windows 8 is running in Metro mode, the program takes up the entire screen. There are no decorations around the program, and the framework separates the program flags. In addition, Microsoft also abandoned the toolbar at the bottom or side of the desktop.

We have said that Windows 8 will completely reconfigure the Windows operating system. Everything is re-explored, including the Windows Logo, to make it feel like a modern PC. The Windows Logo has a strong sense of identity. Looking back at the past and analyzing it, we found that if the Logo evolves, it can better reflect the Metro design principles. This is an opportunity to connect the features of the previous logo.

When designing the Logo, we invited a group of agents, and we were very excited when Pentagram agreed to join the project. Pentagram has a glorious history, its classic graphic design is more attractive, it is very suitable for Metro design principles.

In the early days of developing Windows 8, at the Microsoft Headquarters conference room, we brought together Pentagram Paula Scher, Mike ·, Michael Beirut, and Daniel Weil to meet. A small number of designers from Windows, Microsoft, marketing director. The team opened a day to share some of Metro's design philosophy, including the history, values, graphic design and technology industry trends of the Windows brand.

George · (George Orwell, novelist) said: "Only by continuous efforts can you see the front." ”

When Xue Bolan showed us the new Windows Logo, we also felt this way.

Window instead of banner

Xue Bolan asked us a simple question: "The name is Windows (there is a window), why is it a banner? & rdquo;

You can look at the history of the Windows Logo, including the technical advances when displaying Logo. Windows 1.0 uses a simple two-color version. The design is more complicated on Vista and Windows 7, and the rendering is more specific. Each change has meaning with the different Logo technology environment. Increased computing power, you can use more computing power to render more colors, better fonts, more specific 3D virtual sense, including depth, shadow, material sense. It has evolved from low-resolution images to today's rich high-resolution systems. It starts with a simple "window"; development to the waving flag.

Looking back at the origin of Logo, it really only represents the window. For the operation, the “window” is a great metaphor. In the new logo, we also elaborated the “window” concept. Microsoft and Windows have always been committed to bringing technology to people, so that everyone has more power to find their own vision. This is the original intention of the new logo. We didn't redesign too much, but instead returned to the original intention, bringing Windows to the starting point and briefly redesigning the Windows Logo as “window”.

Here is the past Windows Logo display:

Windows 1.0

Few people remember the original Windows Logo. When doing Metro style design, we found the original Logo is cool and inspiring. It uses simple lines and clear concepts. This logo gives us a sense of excellence in the name of “Windows”.

Windows 3.1

When we think about the past Windows Logo, most people remember this picture. It is a classic window form with four colors that have represented the Windows brand for many years. Due to the "wave" effect, the Logo looks dynamic. This icon became the basis for the Windows version until the 1990s.

Windows XP

When Windows XP was introduced, Logo had a new form, known as the "Windows Flag", which is more concise and mature than in the past. . The icon is placed on the left side, close to the “Start” menu, with a sense of material, rich gradients and shadows, and more 3D effects.

Windows Vista

After the launch of Vista, the design aesthetics of Windows AERO began, and it became an interface element. There is no green "Start" button, replaced with a glass button, embedded in a flat Windows XP banner. The icon is called <;Pearl”. Complex light and shadow effects can be seen from the glass. This proves in many ways that the PC's rendering engine is already very powerful. On Windows 7, Logo is mostly used unchanged.

Windows 8

In Windows 8, we want to make the new Logo design a few key goals.

1. We want to make the new logo more modern and more classic, through the internationalist graphic design style (Swiss design), which has a major impact on our Metro style philosophy. With bold and flat color blocks and simple lines and shapes, the new Logo features the road sign design system, which we often see at airports and subways.

2, Metro principle emphasizes "Authentically Digital", the new Logo practice this principle. That is to say, the new Logo does not have to simulate rich industrial design features, such as materiality (like glass, wood) , plastic, etc.), it is dynamic, similar to the fast, streamlined style of Windows 8.

3, our ultimate goal is to make the new Logo with "humble" & rdquo; "confidence" style. It uses a slanted perspective, and when you change your color, the Logo changes with you. It's a completely “personalized” computer.

I hope everyone likes the new logo.
