Microsoft Showcases Windows 8 with Traditional and Web Editions

According to foreign media reports, Microsoft Windows business unit Steve · Steve Sinofsky showed the Windows 8 operating system for the first time at the D9 meeting on Wednesday. Windows 8 comes in two versions, a classic version, similar to Windows 7, and a Web version that features a full-screen browser interface running applications written in HTML5 and JavaScript.

Sounds like Windows 8 is similar to Google's ChromeOS, but ChromeOS only has a Web version, while Windows 8 allows users to choose between the traditional and the Web versions.

IE 10 will be able to run on the Web version of Windows 8. Microsoft also showed several applications, such as weather forecasts.

The start screen of the Windows version of Windows 8 is similar to the screen of the mobile phone. Each icon represents an application. Microsoft did not disclose details about the start screen, but there was a link to an app store, which added a bit of credibility to the rumors of Windows 8's built-in app store.

The Windows version of Windows 8 is optimized for finger touch. Microsoft has also improved the traditional Windows desktop and supports "blur touch" so that users can manipulate traditional software with their fingers.

Microsoft has released a video about Windows 8 on YouTube.

Sinowski used hardware for configuring Intel processors when demonstrating Windows 8. But Microsoft said the company will showcase Windows 8 running on ARM processors at the International Computer Show in Taipei later today.
