Media Center can be installed in Win 8 Pro

As early as May, there was a media report that Microsoft decided to cancel Media Center before the release of Windows 8, and changed to a fee-based project, allowing users to selectively purchase and install, which means Windows 8 will lose the ability to play DVDs.

Microsoft has posted relevant information on the Windows Team Blog, but users need to be aware that Microsoft decided to target only Windows 8 Pro and some from Windows 7. Upgraded PCs, and Windows 8 Basic Edition installed on the Surface, Media Center and DVD playback still do not work.

If Media Center is a feature you use, you should pay more attention when upgrading or buying a machine.
